🎓 Congratulations to Our Founder, Dr. Aerika Lewis!

Today, Potter and Clay Academy celebrates an incredible milestone!

Our founder and owner, Dr. Aerika Lewis, has successfully completed her doctoral journey in Curriculum and Instruction/Educational Psychology. After successfully defending her research, she was officially welcomed as Dr. Lewis! 🎓❤️

This accomplishment represents more than a new title. It strengthens the very foundation of the work we do at Potter and Clay.

Dr. Lewis's work focuses on understanding how the brain learns and how research can be translated into meaningful classroom instruction. Through curriculum development, teacher and parent education, and innovative learning experiences, this knowledge will continue to shape the way Potter and Clay serves children, families, educators, and lifelong learners.

Our goal has always been bigger than simply teaching lessons. We want to create learning experiences that are research-based, brain-informed, engaging, and designed around how people actually learn.

This milestone opens the door to an even greater impact—and we are incredibly excited about what comes next.

🌍 What if school felt like an ADVENTURE?

This year, our young learners at Potter and Clay Academy are exploring the continent of Africa—but they won't just read about it.

They'll experience it! 🦁🧭

From the very first week, students become PACA World Explorers, receive their Explorer IDs and Mission Cards, and report to Mission Control for their assignments!

Our explorers will:

🗺️ Locate Africa using maps
💧 Conduct hands-on science investigations
🧭 Take real compasses outside to explore direction
🏔️ Practice math while “Climbing Kilimanjaro”
🚙 Count and problem-solve while packing expedition supplies
🔤 Build reading and phonics skills through our Africa adventure
📚 Take their learning home with Adventures in Reading

And that's just Week ONE!

At PACA, we believe children shouldn't simply complete a lesson—they should experience it.

Our small-group classes combine Brain-Based Learning, Science of Reading strategies, movement, exploration, and hands-on learning to make academics meaningful and exciting.

🌿🔬 Welcome to Our Rainforest Discovery Lab! 🔬🌿

Science isn't just something we read about...

It's something we experience.

When I designed Potter and Clay Academy's classroom, I wanted our science area to spark curiosity from the moment students walked in. That's why you'll find living plants, hands-on science tools, nature specimens, and spaces where children are encouraged to explore, observe, and ask questions.

One of my favorite parts of our Rainforest Discovery Lab is our growing collection of plants.

Throughout the school year, our students will help care for them—learning how much sunlight they need, when they need water, how they grow, and why plants are so important to our world.

As our plants grow, so will our students.

Science comes alive when children can see it, touch it, and care for it themselves.

At Potter and Clay Academy, we believe learning should inspire wonder. Whether we're studying the rainforest ecosystem, observing plant growth, or examining animal specimens, every lesson is designed to encourage curiosity and discovery.

Our goal is simple:

🌱 Grow curious minds.
🌿 Build confident learners.
🦋 Inspire a lifelong love of discovery.

Over the past few weeks, our classroom has been transformed. With fresh paint, brand-new screens, thoughtful updates, and lots of love poured into every corner, we're creating a space designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.

This isn't just a classroom. It's a place where children will:

🌿📚 Welcome to Our Reading Rainforest! 📚🌿

Every great adventure begins with a story...

One of the most special places at Potter and Clay Academy is our Reading Rainforest. Tucked beneath leafy greenery, surrounded by colorful books and a cozy handmade reading bench, it's a place where imaginations come alive.

When I designed our classroom, I wanted children to feel like they were stepping into a peaceful rainforest—a place filled with wonder, curiosity, and discovery. Just as explorers uncover new treasures in the rainforest, our students discover new worlds every time they open a book.

While technology is an important part of our homeschool program, I still believe there's something magical about holding a real book in your hands. Turning pages, admiring illustrations, and settling into a cozy spot creates memories that last a lifetime.

That's why Potter and Clay Academy has built a library of more than 800 children's books! Students can enjoy reading in our Reading Rainforest during class or check out books to continue the adventure at home.

At Potter and Clay Academy, we don't just teach children to read.

We inspire them to become lifelong readers, explorers, and dreamers.

We officially have a classroom space for our live classes this upcoming school year — and we are so excited! 🏡📚🌿

Our new learning space was designed to feel warm, peaceful, and welcoming for children while supporting meaningful, brain-based learning experiences.
