📢 The impact of Texas' Electronic Sexual Assault Evidence Kit (SAK) Tracking Reform

Join Dr. Hannah Rochford for a discussion about the impact of Texas' electronic SAK reform provisions on (1) emergency department care for sexual assault, and (2) sexual assault reporting to law enforcement was estimated using quasi-experimental approaches. Findings suggest this policy change may be particularly beneficial for survivors in counties that lack sexual assault forensic exam-ready (SAFE-ready) facilities.

Why are Texas shrimpers dying at a staggering rate? 06/12/2024

In Texas, the labor is largely left up to migrants and refugees, many with Vietnamese and Mexican origins. While the CDC data shows vessel disasters and overboard falls caused 80% of the Gulf Coast deaths in the past two decades, Guillot-Wright said the region’s commercial shrimp fishermen were most worried about how their overall health issues led to the dangerous slips, trips and falls.

Why are Texas shrimpers dying at a staggering rate? Texas shrimpers working in the Gulf of Mexico face an industry fatality rate for fishermen that is about 40 times higher than the national average.
