VBS is a highlight of the year for so many children, teens, and adults. Help us clear the camper waitlist by volunteering with us June 8–12 from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Our need is for 3rd–5th grade teachers. We provide training, lesson plans, and supplies, and every teacher will have a partner, as well as 2-3 Teen Helpers. Please note, this is a High Mobility role, requiring walking throughout campus, bending down, and some lifting.

We’re continuing our new series, Humans We’re Thankful For, to highlight some of our superstar volunteers. How long have you volunteered in this role?
“Plus or minus 20 years.”
What made you say yes?
“I started teaching when my sons were little because I wanted to be right there with them and their friends—and what a gift that season was! Children’s Ministries was overflowing with volunteers who quickly became some of my dearest friends. As my boys grew, I followed them into student ministries for a time, but before long I found myself happily back in those sweet classrooms with tiny chairs, crafts, and lots of laughter.”
What’s your favorite part or what keeps you coming back?
“Even though I have always been—and still am—in an adult Bible study, the lessons we teach each week to the littles are another way for me to stay in my Bible. These lessons share the joyful stories of God’s love and faithfulness, and I truly savor studying them. We march around the walls of Jericho and speak in awe about the promise a rainbow signifies, without getting into the more grown-up parts of the story. I also love knowing that by being in the classroom, I’m filling a spot so a parent can go to worship themselves. When I was in those incredibly busy years, having time to worship on my own meant so much and helped keep me grounded for the week ahead.”
How has it impacted your life?
“Joy!!! It has brought so much joy to my life. The children in our church are hilarious, brilliant, silly, stubborn, creative, shy, mischievous, and absolutely amazing little people. I get such a kick out of them every single week. My multi-colored name tag hangs alongside others that, year by year, belong to friends who have become dear to me. Each Sunday is this beautiful blend of precious kids, powerful reminders of God’s love, and cherished friendships. Joy, joy, joy!!!”
