Look how excited the Astros are that the Dobie Class of 1990 is FINALLY going to see each other in a sort of kind of reunion - TAKE 3!!!! (oh, and they were excited that they won the ALCS title and game 2 of the World Series last night too!)

Mark your calendars ONCE AGAIN for November 13th and meet us at our new 30th, no 31 year reunion TAKE 3!
We will be meeting at our very own alumni, Vu Truong’s “The Phoenix on Westheimer” Brew Pub at 7 pm. This is a no reservation, come on your own gathering, aka you will not be purchasing tickets. Instead, you will be responsible for your own meal and drinks.

Again, thank you so much for all the support you guys have shown us while trying to put this together through these tough times. You have been very encouraging, and we look forward to seeing you on November 13th.

PLEASE SHARE THIS TO ALL THE ALUMNI YOU CAN SO WE CAN GET AS MANY PEOPLE TOGETHER AS POSSIBLE!

Important Reunion News – Please Read and Respond

Hello class of 1990. As you all know we are planning our reunion for 11/13/21 and tickets have been on sale for about a month and a half. We are really excited about all the plans we have made and are excited by the enthusiasm for the event everyone has shown during pre-sale, however we are now at a moment of a crossroad and a decision needs to be made.

As we write this post, and I apologize for its length, but this information needs to be out there, as we write this post, we are very aware of all the stressful situations going on in the world between COVID, New Orleans flooding, California fires and the troop withdrawal. We realize these are bigger problems than our current reunion situation and want you to know we are sensitive to those situations, HOWEVER, because of the nature of our event and the reservations that are made we have a deadline to comply with which is why we are messaging you all now.

We need to decide whether yes or no to go forward with the reunion. The plans are fantastic! We have a great facility and a 9-piece funk band sure to entertain us like no other event. We have all the delicious cocktails you want and delicious food by one of our very own alumni. As you can imagine though there is a cost to putting this event together. Our plan has always been that we expected between 100 to 120 people attending the event. This is very typical for our past reunions and the responses we got before booking the event. The total cost of the event should be between $10,000 and $12,000, hence why tickets are $100 each and we are looking for a few corporate sponsors. This is all very doable . . . except for when you are dealing with COVID.

Ticket sales have been much slower than expected. Our gut feeling was that people are waiting to purchase tickets until they know for sure the event is going to happen and not be cancelled again due to COVID. That suspicion was confirmed when we polled a few people. They said they are going for sure but are waiting to purchase tickets.

Unfortunately, we can’t have everyone do that. If we go further and plan the event on the notion that everyone is going to buy their tickets last minute and we end up short on people we are stuck paying a $10,000 - $12,000 bill. There is not pot of money to draw from. The only money to pay that bill is from ticket sales. If we don’t sell the tickets, then where does the rest of the money come from? There are 5 of us in the group planning the event. I can assure you that none of us have the funds to cover this as we shouldn’t have to, but we will be required to pay that money somehow.

The only reason the event will not happen is if the city was to shut down events again like they did last year. Our thoughts are that they are not going to do that again because there would be too much push back. We will put safety measures into play but if we go further with this plan, there will not be a cancelation. If for some reason the city was to shut down events again and it was canceled, then we would refund your tickets. You don’ have to worry about losing your money.

So back to our crossroad. We have a week to decide if we go further with this plan or if we call it off. I know we all really want to do the event and get together, but we are also aware that circumstances may have changed for you, You may not be able to attend even if you previously planned to.

At this time, what we really need is for everyone to purchase their tickets in the next week so we have an accurate count of how many people are going to attend. We are reasonable and know that some people need to get their bank accounts ready before making that payment and cannot do it this week. I was going to create a poll on this post for the next 2 days and get you to click on "yes" or "no" to let us know if you are seriously going to buy tickets or not so we can make a decision but I cannot, I repeat CANNOT GET THIS DARN THING TO WORK RIGHT! (expletive, expletive, expletive!!!!!)

So, instead please comment below to tell us if you plan to come or not and if you can purchase your ticket in the next week or two so we can make our decision before Monday.

Better yet just click on this link and purchase your tickets right now!!!!!!

Remember to share this with everyone you know from our class and post it on your facebook wall also. We want everyone to see this.

We are going to listen to these answers through this weekend and decide because we must let all the vendors know on Monday what our decision is.

Thank you for reading all of this. We appreciate your cooperation and really do look forward to seeing all of you!

The J. Frank Dobie Class of 1990 - 30 Year (plus one) Reunion Please help us make this event possible for as many alumni as we can.  Donate a ticket for someone that would not be able to attend otherwise.
