Officially Q3 y'all and there are a lot of new faces here, so reintroduction time.

TL,DR: I'm that b*tch😜

I'm Dr. Shaquinta, Life Coach for high-achieving Black women (i.e. talented women in any arena) who want to create balance, boundaries, and a life led with joy.

I grew up in SC with my mother and older sister. I was a gifted kid, which led to me being an overachiever who placed all my self-worth in my academic then career accomplishments.

I grew up in projects and trailer parks and viewed education as my ticket out, which it ultimately was for me.

I went to an HBCU, the illustrious Claflin University for undergrad, then master's and Ph.D. from The University of Georgia in Human Development & Family Science with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy and Disability Studies.

I was able to accomplish more professionally than I was statistically "supposed to" but it came at the cost of my identity, perfectionism, lack of self-worth, etc.

I have done and continue to my own work of expanding my self-concept beyond my achievements, setting boundaries in my own life to create stronger healthy relationships, and learning to care for myself in ways that keep me full and living my life for ME.

Now, my whole life matches what my achievements once did.

5 Lesson I've learned and do my best to integrate into everything I do.

1. It's all made up. All of it. You truly get to DECIDE who you are and who you want to be.

2. Everything got easier once I learned to listen to my own voice. We have been conditioned to prioritize everyone else's beliefs and opinions. Finding your voice in all that noise is liberating.

3. We can't function using one part of ourselves. Brain without heart, heart without brain, either without spirit. Our highest version of ourselves is informed by them all.

4. Everything we do is informed/guided by our own personal experiences and are not universal law. Whatever you believe, believe it for YOU. Be curious and compassionate with everyone else.

5. Don't take anything personal. This is probably the hardest and most important. Once you understand that everything WE do is informed by own sh*t, you will better understand and be less reactive to other people's sh*t spilling out onto you.

The biggest realization clients have with coaching is the reality that it starts and ends with you.

Not your job, not your boss, not your partner, not your parents, and not your children. At the end of the day, you get to decide what next step you take. And if you aren't taking it, you have to look within for the reasons why. Not accept that you're stuck because of "them."

My job as a coach is to help you go beyond the point where you would usually stop and fall back into familiarity, and push you towards what you want to create.

I said this in a session earlier and I realized this reminder is needed.

Emotions are not our enemy. They also aren't the solution.

So many people still view emotions as something to be controlled or ignored, packed away so no one knows you have them. But that's just not how this works.

Emotions are there whether you acknowledge them or not and if you don't deal with them, they will deal with you.

On the flip side, emotions are our signals. They alert us to how we are receiving the world around us. They aren't the end point. They aren't where we're supposed to stay. They help us determine how to move forward.

Either way, you have to tune into your emotions, give yourself space, and get to know yourself intimately in order to create the most authentic, balanced, harmonious life for YOU going forward at any point.

This is the key to your most creative self. This is the key to be an equitable, compassionate leader. This is the key to not self-sabotaging your opportunities.

The way forward is through.
