Of course, we need boundaries, our little ones need these to thrive. We also need to model what appropriate behaviour looks like, especially when our child lashes out (which is inevitable). Toddlers are still learning to regulate those big emotions, they’re still developing the language to communicate their needs and feelings, so adjusting our expectations will make life easier for everyone. Expecting total compliance is unrealistic. But we can use those challenging and stressful situations to model the behaviour we want to see. Try and remain conscious of the fact that toddlerhood is a magical yet challenging phase of our little one’s life. It’s a phase of life where their brain will develop more than ever. Therefore, ensuring our expectations of their behaviour are realistic, allows us to open up the door to work with them, and provide them with tools to last a lifetime ❤️
