In case you missed this week’s email:

There is a saying in parenthood you may have heard,
“If your children are getting wild, take them outside,”
or something to that effect, and while I don’t know who to attribute it to, it rings true for my family.

There have been a handful of times over these summer months that the weather did not permit such wild running of the young ones—namely, during the heat waves and tornado warnings that have been frequent. Eek.

As most parents know, so much indoor time frequently leads to a particular type of chaos. And this mama does not thrive in chaos.

Homeschooling itself can also occasionally lead to chaos, whether it comes in the form of a busy season of life, a stressful financial season, or a trying season in some other way.

It got me thinking about one of the founding values of Deeply Rooted Learning Center—God has made us all unique, and as such, we are each bestowed with certain gifts to share with the world.

Likewise, it got me thinking about something else God created us for. Community. Because, as many a parent knows, there is a certain kind of chaos that thrives in isolation.

Sometimes the only light to be shown on it comes in the form of a play date, a relative stopping by; heck, sometimes even a delivery from the grocery store can be enough to break the monotony just enough!

But those little interruptions can only carry us so far. Sometimes what we really need is somewhere to go, people who are glad to see us, and the comfort of knowing we don’t have to do all of this alone.

Between the way the Earth offers us just what we need when young ones are running a little wild, and the way community offers us just what we need to shake off the doldrums of parenting in isolation, I have been getting more and more excited about this upcoming year.

Nature walks with my daughter were things I really looked forward to because I knew it was a balm. A remedy. An answered prayer. So, too, was the community I found in the first Deeply Rooted co-op we helped form and take part in almost seven years ago.

I’m writing this because I hope it can be the same for you.

I hope that the programs, meetups, and support we offer can be of service. I hope it can offer a little bit of hope, whether that comes after a hot summer, a frigid winter, or something in between.

Most of all, I hope that you and your family know that your gifts are not only welcome here; they are celebrated.

Here’s to a beautiful new season growing together. I’m looking forward to serving families and the community this year.

Deeply Rooted isn't meant to be a replacement for school.

It's something different.

Your family can homeschool in the way that works best for you…and use Deeply Rooted for the things that are harder to create alone!

Community. Enrichment. Nature walks. Field trips. Hands-on learning. Friendships. A place to gather, learn, make things, ask questions, and belong.

We don't believe families should have to fit themselves into an institution in order to have access to a rich learning community.

Deeply Rooted is here to be part of the village around your family.

Your homeschool can still feel like yours.

This year, we're making it easier than ever to be part of the Deeply Rooted community.

🌱 Nature Walks, meetups & community events
Free to attend, with donations always welcome.

📚 Monday Co-op | Ages 3–11.
Older and younger siblings always welcome, with leadership and service opportunities available for older children and teens.
$50 per family/month — not per child!
Hands-on learning through Sciences & Stewardship, Art & Beauty, History & Place, and Makers & Founders.

🚌 Field trips & special experiences
Some will be free; others may have an additional cost depending on the experience.

You don't have to join co-op to be part of Deeply Rooted. Come for a walk, meet us at an event, join us for maple tapping or gardening—or do a little of everything. 🤍

There's more than one way to grow with us 🌿

Nature walks start Wednesday, September 23.
Co-op starts Monday, September 28.

🌿 We’re going back to our roots.

When Deeply Rooted began, the idea was simple: create more opportunities for children and families (especially postpartum moms) to get outside, learn with their hands, explore their curiosity, create meaningful things, and feel connected—to nature, to their community, and to one another.

As we’ve been planning our 2026–27 year, we keep coming back to that.

And we are SO excited about what is growing. 🌱

This year, our Monday co-op will focus on ages 3–11, with babies and older siblings welcome always! It will weave together science, art, history, and Makers & Founders through seasonal, hands-on learning.

We’ll paint…but we might make the pigment first.

We’ll study food…but we might grind the grain and bake the bread.

We’ll learn about our coast…but we hope to get on the water and see it from the other side.

We’ll study history by looking at the places, objects, stories, and people around us.

We’ll build. Experiment. Cook. Draw. Grow. Observe. Design. Get dirty. Ask questions. Try things that don’t work the first time.

And instead of sending home a mountain of crafts every week, each child will spend the year creating a Deeply Rooted Field Record—part field journal, part locally inspired field guide, part portfolio, and part record of everything they’ve discovered, made, wondered about, and contributed.

🌿 Wednesday Nature Walks are back, too and they’re open to families with children of all ages.

Add in field trips, Half-Day Hangouts, Maple Tapping, our Christmas Bazaar, Seed Exchange, Earth Day, Art Show, and plenty of room for unexpected adventures…

and this might be our favorite Deeply Rooted year yet.

Our Monday co-op for ages 3–11 will weave together earth sciences, art, history and Makers & Founders through seasonal, hands-on learning.

Our Wednesday Nature Walks are open to families with children of all ages.

And we'll leave room in the calendar for field experiences that let us go to the source—boats, museums, farms, historic places, artists, makers, working environments and wherever else our curiosity takes us.

HUGE THANK YOU to Miss Justine for leading our final sewing class for the season! Cannot say enough good things about the time and dedication she put into leading this adorable Sewing 101 class.

Each week students and parents built on skills and techniques.

This week consisted of turning our pillows right side out, stuffing them, then hand sewing them all the way up to complete them.

In the end everyone took home their very own prayer pillow with the most adorable cross tucked inside.

Happy World Bee Day! 🐝🐝🐝

Today we are thankful for these awesome little pollinators that power the planet. Did you know without bees about 75% of the crops in the US wouldn’t be possible? We rely on them that much!

A list of foods we need bees and pollinators for:

Fruits

* Apples
* Strawberries
* Blueberries
* Cherries
* Peaches
* Pears
* Watermelons
* Cantaloupes

Vegetables (especially flowering/fruiting ones)

* Pumpkins
* Squash
* Cucumbers
* Zucchini

Nuts

* Almonds — one of the most bee-dependent crops in agriculture
* Some pollination support for other nuts and fruits too

Ways families can protect bees:

🌸 Plant bee favorites

* Lavender
* Salvia
* Allium
* Coneflowers
* Native wildflowers
* Bee balm
* Black-eyed Susans
* Mountain mint
* Goldenrod
* Asters
* Milkweed
* Native sunflowers

The goal: something blooming spring → fall, so bees have food all season.

💧 Create a bee watering station
A shallow dish with:

* water
* pebbles or marbles
* sticks for landing

Bees get thirsty but can drown in deep water.

🚫 Reduce pesticide use
Even some products sold for home gardens can affect pollinators. Spraying flowering plants—especially during bloom—can unintentionally expose bees.

🏡 Leave a little mess
Not all bees live in hives. Many native bees:

* nest in soil
* use hollow stems
* use leaf litter

Tiny “wild corners” actually help.

Together we can protect our pollinators and be good stewards of the Earth 🌍

What an adorable and fun first Sewing 101 class today! Kids and families were blessed to have Ms. Justine join us and share her knowledge on all things sewing during the first sewing class. It was so heartwarming seeing the students open their bags of supplies, choose fabrics, and begin work on a prayer square.

What might look like ‘just sewing’ is actually so many skills and talents being used at once! From hand strength and dexterity to making new synapses and connections in the brain, hands-on skills like sewing help kids and families hone sharp minds.

Deeply Rooted exists to connect community, honor the Earth and each other, and teach hands-on skills that kids and adults can use for life.
