Your dream is worth it!
Sometimes we've gotta go through challenges that shake us, obstacles that exhaust us and moments that almost break us.
-
But there is hope!
The dream that's in your heart; the reason you're doing what you're doing is all worth it. Better days are ahead and you know it.
Focus on the end goal, while giving your best today. Because someday soon, you'll make that breakthrough and it will all be worth it!
-
Stay true to your dream!
You've got this 🙏🏽

Congratulations to Jamie Cambre for graduating from the St. John the Baptist Parish correctional center yesterday. This is his graduation speech that he gave. We would like to thank St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office for the support they give to help people complete their high school diploma!

---
When I first entered the GED program, I was only trying to get the 4 months of good time credits, so I could get an early release date. Because I need to be shipped to St. Charles Parish to face some pending charges, but once I started the program I realized I was a 40 year old high school dropout that was addicted to drugs and alcohol. Also, my daughter did not have a father and I needed to change my life, so I decided I needed the GED for the sole purpose of bettering myself for my daughter.

The last 14 months I have learned a lot, so when I get released from jail I will pursue some type of degree. I like to weld, but I have many skills I've learned over the years. With that being said, I would like to thank a few people.

I would like to thank God, without him none of this would be happening. Ms. Louper for always keeping up positive, and Warden Oubre, Deputy Lee, and the rest of the St. John Parish staff who gave me a chance when no one else would; you said not to let you down and I didn't. Last but not least, Chaplin August for his time he devotes to the inmates here. Thank you all for your time.

Enjoyed our visit to La Morita Meat Market and Restaurant, owned and managed by two of our students: Simon Perico and Juliana Alvarado. We tried a variety of delicious foods, some for the first time: chicken enchiladas, beef and cheese empanadas (or meat pies), pupusas (a thick corn tortilla with cheese and pork grilled inside), sopes (fried bread topped with steak, lettuce, tomato, cheese and avocado), fried bananas and plantains, and a variety of homemade salsa. Delicioso!
