We all know students love to chase new experiences, and alumni are no different!

Meet Casey Loring '19, who used the knowledge gained from his astrophysics minor to capture the recent solar eclipse from Iceland:

"I was one of only 300 on the cliffs at Látrabjarg amongst 80,000 tourists and 250,000 Reykjavík residents to get a spot through the clouds to witness totality on Iceland!" Loring said. "What an experience. I'm so lucky!"

How are you spending the last few moments of summer? Whether you're settling into life as a recent grad, finishing an internship, or working on a cool project, let us know in the comments!

Nearly 700 Huskies. Five years of research, collaboration and community engagement. And a growing collection of projects designed to make a lasting difference.

EmpowerUP began when two students approached Michigan Tech College of Business instructor Jonathan Leinonen with a question: How could they explore community-engaged research?

That question became the spark for a program that connects student learning with real needs on campus, across the western Upper Peninsula, and even around the world.

Along the way, students learn that meaningful change rarely happens in a single semester. Their research, deliverables and recommendations become building blocks for the Huskies who follow.

EmpowerUP alumni, help us tell that story: What project did you work on? Share it in the comments and tell us what you remember most about the experience.

is excited to announce the expansion of our Tech Trail system!

Thanks to a generous donation from brothers Don McLean and Norman McLean '68 of more than 20 acres of property adjacent to the Portage Lake Golf Course, the 1.5-kilometer McLean Brownell River Trail will be added to the existing 40 kilometers.

"It's a unique piece of property that we've put into Tech's hands to ensure its future," Don said. "Both Michigan Tech students and the public will get to enjoy it over the years."
