Library staff took one last field trip with Bob, our departing Geospatial Librarian, to learn more about drones and drone photography. Bob explained the restrictions around drone use, the permission he had to ask for, as Michigan Tech is traditionally a no-launch site, and how awesome a drone selfie, otherwise known as a "dronie", looks.

While we can't take you back in time to our field trip, we can offer some awesome drone books. Check out the link in our Linktree in the bio!

It's the final month of our Summer Reading Challenge, so there's still time to earn a few more points before the challenge ends!

This month's Featured Reads spotlight Superior Beach Reads—books set in the Upper Peninsula or written by Upper Peninsula authors. These titles earn you 1 bonus point toward the challenge.

Looking for even more ways to boost your score? Books featuring BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color) authors or characters also earn you 1 bonus point.

The UP Summer Reading Challenge continues between Michigan Tech, Northern, and Lake State. Currently, MTU is trailing both of our competitors, so take this smoky weather as a sign to stay inside and read.

Be sure to fill out the summer reading challenge form for every book you complete—the link is in our Linktree! And don't forget those bonus points. This month, you can earn your university bonus points by reading U.S. historical fiction or nonfiction, or books by or featuring disabled authors or characters (defined broadly to include physical disabilities, mental disabilities, severe/chronic illness, and neurodivergence).

Every book counts, so help Michigan Tech catch up!

The library's service points will be virtual or closed today, Friday, July 17 for the safety of staff and visitors. Physical lending will be paused for the day, but library staff is available via our Ask Us service to answer your research and reference questions!

The 24/7 spaces will also remain accessible . Use your ID to enter the 24-hour doors on the west side of the building or the Rekhi bridge in order to use computers and printers in these spaces.
