Wolf groupings are constantly changing throughout the seasons. Depending on time of year, presence of young, availability of food, group dynamics, etc, the numbers in scouting groups and the main pack change. 1 wolf can be born into one pack to then establish its own or become a member of another a few years later. Snowshoe hare fur changes to white in the late fall to blend with the snow. However, years with less snow can leave fully white snowshoe hares vulnerable to predators. This photo was taken in late November 2020. Winter 2020-2021 had very low snowfall compared to other years. The white fur likely made it easier for this red fox to hunt the hare.
