We have been in the top 27 in BSME degrees awarded for the past 37 consecutive years.

Congratulations to Ramie Sussex on being named Winter Carnival Royal Majesty and Audience Choice Award winner!
Ramie represents Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity and is graduating in Fall 2026 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Aerospace Engineering. From her involvement in Formula SAE Enterprise and the College of Engineering’s Research Experience for Undergraduates to her passion for skiing, writing, and community engagement, Ramie exemplifies the spirit, leadership, and dedication that make Winter Carnival so special.

Dr. Brad King (Richard and Elizabeth Henes Endowed Professor, MAE and co-founder/CEO of Orbion Space Technology) was quoted in SpaceNews following Orbion’s delivery of 33 Aurora electric propulsion thrusters to York Space Systems in support of a U.S. military satellite constellation.

Congratulations, Dr. Dyreson!
🌨️ Assistant Professor Ana Dyreson (MAE) has received a National Science Foundation grant for her research in maximizing resilience to winter weather in future electric power systems! ❄️
Her project engages with electric utilities in the Midwest in order to understand the industry’s needs for science tools to plan for winter resilience in the future, designing tools that will benefit electric power resilience in all communities.
Her co-principal investigators include Tech's own Professor Chelsea Schelly (Sociology), Professor Pengfei Xue (CEGE), and Cornell University's Assistant Professor Vivek Srikrishnan.
MAE alums Molli Andor, Cynthia (Protas) Hodges, and Jaclyn Johnson were joined by Professor Emerita Dana Johnson for an afternoon Q&A with student members of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Thanks for taking time to help students understand what an engineering career can look like.

Dr. Fei Long shared a creative moment from one of his students who found a fun way to integrate Mechanics of Materials with the season's spirit - a "stress element" jack-o'-lantern complete with normal and shear stress arrows, an impressive blend of art and engineering fundamentals. Stress has never looked so festive!

Brad King has been launching rockets and careers from the Keweenaw since 2000. This year, the Richard and Elizabeth Henes Endowed Professor of Space Systems and CEO of Orbion Space Technology will deliver the’s First Year Engineering Lecture to an incoming class of more than 1,000 students.
His lecture, entitled “You’re Good at Math and You Like to Build Things, Now What?”, will cover his expansive career as well as provide practical advice to students on what to expect as they embark on their new journeys as Husky engineers.
With the fall semester in full swing, the College of Engineering welcomes 13 new faculty members across six departments. These new researchers and educators bring a wealth of experience in both industry and academia across a variety of fields and disciplines.

The Keweenaw Research Center and the Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering at Michigan Tech will host the 2020 SAE CLEAN SNOWMOBILE CHALLENGE (CSC) on March 9-14, 2020 and have hosted it for the past 17 years. Next year will be the 20th anniversary of the CSC competition.
