🏆 BIG NEWS, GREMLINS! 🏆

Houghton High School has been named the #1 high school in the Upper Peninsula in the 2026–27 U.S. News & World Report rankings! 🎉🧡🖤

In addition, Houghton ranks #21 out of 1,259 high schools in Michigan and #653 out of nearly 18,000 high schools nationwide. Houghton also earned a #264 national ranking for STEM success.

These rankings are a reflection of the dedication, hard work, and commitment of our students, teachers, support staff, families, and entire Houghton-Portage community.

We are incredibly proud of what our Gremlins continue to accomplish! Congratulations, Houghton High School! 🧡🖤

🏃‍♀️🏀 BACK 2 SCHOOL SPORTS CAMP! 🏈⚽️

Get ready to kick off the school year with some fun, games, and outdoor activities! 🎉

The Back 2 School Sports Camp will be held August 24–27 and is open to all students (girls and boys) entering grades 1–6 this fall!

Students will have the chance to play some of their favorite games and activities from gym class while having fun, staying active, and getting excited for the new school year. Most activities will take place outside, with indoor activities used only if weather disrupts the fun.

Middle School Athletics officially begin August 17! We’re excited to get another great season underway! 💙💛

✅ Important: FinalForms Registration

Please make sure your student is registered in FinalForms ASAP. This is the platform coaches will use to communicate important information about practices, games, and teams.

A parent/guardian must first create an account and then add their student(s).

📝 Athletic Eligibility

Before a student can practice or compete, both the student and a parent/guardian must complete and sign all required FinalForms documents.

Students must also have a valid sports physical on file that was completed on or after April 15, 2026. The physical must be signed by the parent/guardian and a MD, DO, NP, or PA and uploaded to the student's FinalForms account.

🏥 Need a physical?
Whitney Brey, PA, is available to complete sports physicals at the Upper Great Lakes Health Center Clinic located in the high school. Appointments can be scheduled directly with her by emailing [email protected].

📚✨ 3 WEEKS TO GO! ✨📚

The countdown is on! Only 3 weeks until our HPTS students are back! We’re getting ready for another great year, and our CTE/STEM lab is looking better than ever! 🔬💻⚙️

Principal Julie Fipus, Science Teacher Nick Squires, and Counselor Kristen Rundman recently toured the lab, where the equipment is ready to spark curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning.

We can’t wait to see what our students create, discover, and accomplish this year! 🚀

Houghton Portage Township Schools is honored to host the Upper Peninsula Special Olympics bocce ball tournament today. The tournament will take place until around 2:00pm. Feel free to stop by.
