(ACS) and Michigan Technological University are hosting the initial stage
of the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad.

Complete the exam and receive
a participation gift. Place in the top of UP participants and win a $100, $75 or $50 Campus Store gift card and an
opportunity to advance to the next round. Free to participate!

Who is eligible?
Any UP high school student (under the age of 20) is eligible to participate in
a virtual 110-min, 60 multiple choice question chemistry exam.
The exam will be proctored March 13, 2023 from 6:30-8:20pm EST
(registration deadline is March 3, 2023).

Today we are sending our deepest condolences to the Michigan State community. Our hearts go out to the victims, families and friends of those impacted.

"Dear Members of the Michigan Tech Community,
As many of you are aware, there was a shooting at our sister institution, Michigan State University, which resulted in several students being killed or injured. Michigan Tech grieves for the students, faculty, and staff of Michigan State University, their families, and the entire East Lansing community.

Yesterday’s incident leaves many more questions than answers. And, I know the incident itself is traumatizing for many. Social and emotional support—including counseling services—are available. Students can call the Center for Student Mental Health and Well-being at 906-487-2538 to make an appointment. Employees can contact the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) by calling 906-225-3145 or visiting Northstar EAP to schedule an appointment.

As we stand in solidarity with MSU, it is a sobering reminder of the need to always be prepared and remain vigilant. While incidents like this are hard to fathom, we will always strive to provide our students and employees a safe place to learn and work.

Celebrating Dr. Simeon Schum today as we wish him the best on his next adventure.
Simeon earned his PhD with us in May 2019 under Dr. Lynn Mazzoleni. He then became our Research Specialist, operating and maintaining the mass spectrometers in the CARM Lab. Now, Simeon accepted a job as an Analytical Atmospheric Chemist at the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) in Leipzig, Germany. Good Luck Simeon on your next adventure. We will miss you!
