At Wild in the West we are about making it easier for you as the horse owner to understand and communicate to your horse, it is our dream for you to share that special bond with your partner that only a trainer and horse share. That little bit of extra all that comes from a deep bond and the trust that grows. If you are looking for a at home solution then we may be a great option as well as if you

are in our area Western Montana we do offer full training services but are really about helping you help your horse. We are also there for our horse community members who adopt and or rescue horses this is a very challenging and rewarding experience and we are here for you all the way. Due to requests in our local area we are writing a book on our methods and training exercises and will post videos on the page. A big question we get is why don't you charge anything? How do we know you are for real why haven't I heard of you? Well good questions, the answer to the first is we do charge for if you need us to come out and work with you or on your horse and the second is simple we have been working case by case ranch by ranch horse by horse and are not out there promoting our methods or selling videos. There are a lot of very good trainers out there and some of them are pretty famous and if their training methods work for you then keep using them! Heck we use them as well from time to time if there is a particular method that works for a problem we give it a go! Natural horsemanship is not something that is different from one person to the next the principals are the same. The details and the method in which they are executed are what is different. Our methods are out there for your education not our profit and you may use them and we hope they help strengthen the bond between you and your herd.

Buck 16 yo. Registered QH/Paint in on consignment with 30 day tune up sat for 3 years rarely used. Is a phenomenal using horse has done well in everything we have done with him so far. Loves his job and needs to go to a cowboy this is not a trail horse. Could easily be a good pot luck play day rodeo horse.

It’s the beginning of consignment season first boy coming in next week for his tune up 30 and marketing package. I expect him to sell fast once we verify his mountain and ranch skills

Not all horses have a “good mind”. Dose that mean they have a bad mind?
Of course not. It just means that introducing new concepts to them is not easy or fast. Small steps, baby steps, if you don’t then you end up working for several hours like I did today because I figured if a horse is good with a 60 foot tarp going over her back saddle panniers would be fine. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So not true. But once you get into the work you have to keep going until you find a good place to stop. Actual fear…very little, obstinate sure I got to see the tricks she learned at her previous homes to out whit, scare and keep from doing her work. There is nothing to do but keep the pressure on until you see even a glimmer of going towards the right answer come up. But she is still my girl. I still love her, I will never give up on her and I now know exactly how fast she can boost. Man talk about fast!! We ended both dusty sweaty, and still trusting each other even accepting that stupid flapping pannier. This was the before shot after her spa treatment, my gorgeous girl.

Not every session is about “moving” work. If every time you saddle a horse you “work” they sour. That is part of Chy’s issues she wasn’t ridden to work but when she came to us she could lope out 45 minutes of blind ground work without slowing or looking at me. I had to stand there and let her see that I wasn’t asking anything of her. Now she is very attentive and soft. Today she got to stand in a paddock with her buds and watch the other two get schooled.

It was a great warm day. My cruise ship of a turning mare has reclaimed her motor boat status. Still a big girl that has to be encouraged to use herself correctly and still lazy from her winter down time she is coming around to her spring work with a good mind. She still walks up to be haltered no matter how many Mare Glare looks I get when I ask for supple ribs.

Don’t get discouraged by steps backwards. It is often the way of horses. Two forward one back find any good place and stop try again another time. Not every session is a masterpiece sometimes you can barely make a go of it. Lady was quite spooked of my husband’s movements in the back of the truck but such things will become common to her one day.

As is often with feral horses you take 3 steps forward and two back, one to the side and trip. Not a good day for Lady in terms of progress but I never give ...
