"Most people believe that the world is round, but it makes little difference in their lives. Many of the same people may also believe in God, but that belief makes no difference to their lives. To believe in God, a Christian would say, is to know God, and if we know God, then it is inevitable that He will change our lives and become the most central part of our life-experience. For Christians it is impossible to be indifferent to the supreme being; the God we worship is a person whom we encounter and who changes human lives."

Children Need to Write:
•To link reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
•To become sensitive to the ways that words and genres express meaning.
•To understand the meaning of audience.
•To establish clear purposes.
• To develop voice.
If we want to make sure that all children have every chance to succeed, we need to help them learn to integrate language so that they can read, write, speak, and listen in ways that are dynamic, proactive, interactive, enjoyable, and meangingful. Writing to read aloud will help all children make just the kind of gains they need to make sure that none of them are left behind.

Children need to write to learn to establish clear purposes. When children become aware of the importance of audience, they will also understand the importance of choosing clear purposes for their writing. Often children write with one purpose in mind: to complete an assignment. When they are writing for an audience of their peers ( or for other audiences, e.g., parents or students in other classes, they will see that the purpose of their writing--whether it be to inform, persuade, describe, delight, or define -- must be fully realized and articulated. They will also see that, through direct instruction, they must choose the best genres to carry the freight of their purpises and ideas.
