This garden belongs to all of us! Our students, our staff, our families, and our community. 3rd-5th grade students enjoyed their first Bountiful Cities FEAST Gardening lessons of the school year where we discussed this concept along with garden expectations and garden wishes. Students then split into smaller groups by choosing a garden activity to participate in. Some used shovels to dig potatoes, others harvested giant cucumbers and a rainbow of colored peppers, while the final group snipped basil and the sweetest cherry tomatoes.

What a delight to be back in the garden with preschool, kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders! Students learned a song to help them them enjoy the garden while being mindful of our growing plants. They were so excited to find squash, cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, and more with their "garden goggles." Students tasted tomatoes, basil, peppers, and sour gherkins. Many reports of "yummy" flavors. They also learned where to put things that they didn't like (our new compost bin) and picked beautiful flower bouquets for their teachers and families!

Hopefully, many vegetables made it home safely in backpacks! It is a plentiful time of year in the garden and we still have more to share this week. I'll be bringing what's left of yesterday's harvest to the Community Social at the Spring Creek Community Center tonight from 6-8pm. Bring a bag and come hungry!

🍅 No Thursday Gather & Garden meetup this week or for the remainder of August!

🌶 Stay tuned for an announcement of monthly garden workdays this fall. I'm working to create a schedule that allows us to beat the heat and more community members to join. Volunteers are a big part of what makes our school garden so wonderful!

Thank you to all of the families who stopped by the garden booth at Meet the Teacher Night! Students sampled cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers grown right outside in our school garden. A few brave ones even tried the spilanthes herb for a fun adventure! Looking forward to being back at school and Bountiful Cities FEAST garden classes starting again this week.

Gather & Garden is a group of volunteers that meets to complete garden work including planting, harvesting, weeding, and other seasonal tasks. Make new friends and spend time chatting gardening along the way. No prior experience necessary, there's a job for every skill level. All ages are welcome, children must attend with an adult. Gardening classes are part of the curriculum and the garden is maintained by and for the students!

The Gardens are dancing with a blend of vibrant colors!

The zinnias that PreK-2 started from seed and then planted out have grown and branched out, and are now covered in blossoms, butterflies, and bees. There's more than enough to supply a few bouquets; bring a pair of scissors and cut a few stems if you're driving by!
