Oh how i have slacked this season. I apologize. Ashley has been doing such a great job writing up the articles for the newspaper and Facebook that I havent been doing my normal posts. So ill try to do better. So with that being said. Thus track season has started off and is about mid way at this point. We have had a lot of success on the men's and women's side. Kara has been 1st or 2nd at every meet so far. And is leading the way for our regional rankings at 35ft10in. And she has more in the tank. I just have to get her to realize it. The guys have been putting in some work as well. Finishing top 3 in one way or another each meet. Austin and Ben have taken turns taking first and second d 2nd and 3rd. Or 1st and 3rd. Lol thats in the shotput and discus. Each reaching over 140ft in the discus us . Austin is at the top of the list for 2a seated 1st or 2nd depending on the week. Wyatt isnt far off of qualifying distance for regionals. Think he will get there i. The next meet or so. For shotput anyway. We have so.e work to do I. Discus. But he is capable. And in the Javelin Aiden is still doing his thing. He had that 162ft throw a d hasnt gotten quite there lately but with the wind we have dealt with and short runway at another school he is still out at 140s+ and we have really. Een adjusting his technique each week to try and d set him up for some big bombs toward the end of the season. Hoping around league or so he will hit that mark i think he can hit. So thats kind of a run down of our top competitors so far. We also have some youngsters that have a promising future ahead of them and so.e fresh faces that will be up next year. Addy, Carly P, Carly B, Cheyenne and Colton. Are all hanging in there around d the middle of the pack in the rankings I know they all have the ability to do well, I just have to pull it out of them. If any of these throwers arent successful in their highschool career that is 100% on me. And i will absolutely take the blame for it. Anyway. Next week we go to Sabetha. Always a good competitive meet for us.

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR…
IT’S TRACK SEASON, Y’ALL!
Written By: Ashley Lott

HORTON — It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The moment we’ve all been waiting for… the moment our Charger athletes have been working so hard for. It is officially track and field season y'all, and let me tell you what: The Horton Chargers had themselves a day!
In a stunning showcase of breakthroughs, pure grit, and athleticism, both the boys and girls squads turned in a tidal wave of personal bests and podium-topping efforts to kick off the season at Holton High School.
Boys Leave it All in the Field and on the Track
Leading the charge for the boys was powerhouse Junior Austin Garrison, who muscled his way right to a first-place finish in the shot put with a season-best bomb of 49 feet, 2 inches and then secured a third-place finish in the discus. Not far behind him was Senior Ben Selland, who delivered a massive performance of his own. Sellands new found comfort in the circle proved his senior year will be the best one yet, as he placed second in the discus (142' 10") and fourth in the shot put. Adding to the thrower's success, Junior Aiden Jamvold soared to the gold in the javelin. Jamvold launched a personal-best throw, and set the IAAF JAVELIN SCHOOL RECORD for HHS of 162 feet. With this throw, Jamvold firmly established himself as the man to beat moving forward.
According to online records, all three throwers mentioned above are currently ranked 1st in 2A for their respective events. With this being their first varsity meet of the season, and putting up the numbers that they have so early on, I would say that " The Bomb Squad “ is making a statement!
On the track, the speed and endurance groups consistently improved their marks. Freshman Brady Mayer started off his varsity season sprinting to personal bests in both the 100-meter (14.77) and 200-meter (30.01). Meanwhile, Noah Fassnacht made his mark with a personal-best of 2:40.77 in the 800 meters as well as a nice performance in the 1600. Adam Finch added to Horton’s distance success, pushing his limits to place fifth in the 3200 meters and ninth in the 1600—both of which were hard-earned personal-best performances.
Lady Chargers Dominate the Podium
On the girls’ side, Horton found its undisputed star at the top of the podium in Jalesia Taisipic. Taisipic cleared a spectacular 5 feet to win the high jump in a personal-best effort! Not content with just winning in the air, she also burned up the track, helping lead the relay teams and posting an individual personal best in the 200 meters.
Ellah Stirton delivered an amazing performance as she raced her way to a second-place finish in the grueling 300-meter hurdles, clocking in with a lightning-fast personal best of 52.75.Stirton is currently sitting 4th in 2A, proving that she's a force to be reckoned with. Ellah also proves to be the ultimate teammate as well, playing a critical anchor role in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads.
Distance standout Ashlynn Schwed showed off her grit and stamina with a fourth-place finish in the 3200 meters and a fifth-place finish in the 1600. Both were personal-best times, demonstrating the kind of endurance and heart it takes to compete.
Back in the field events, Kara CoversUp threw a gem to place second in the shot put with a season best throw of 33 feet, 7 inches, while also putting up points in the javelin with a 5th place finish. Coversup is currently sitting 3rd in 2A in shotput. Meanwhile, Freshman Carlee Paden showed her strength and skill at the varsity level by adding a sixth-place finish in the discus which was a personal best of her own.
The sprint group also proved they have been putting in the work. Leticia Wakole, Zariah Gutierrez, and Rosalynn Masuch all recorded blazing personal bests in their open races. Their speed carried right over into the team events, powering Horton’s relay teams to highly competitive finishes, including a fierce sixth-place result in the 4x100 relay.
The Outlook: Chargers Are Just Getting Started
Across the board, Horton athletes demonstrated the kind of determination, steady improvement, and heart that makes this community proud. With a massive haul of personal records and hardware already secured so early in the schedule, the Chargers look to have a historic season. A great reminder that it's “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year….It's track season Ya’ll.”

Ok so I have discussed this over the years and cant beleive how many schools dont realize this but any school record that is before 2003 is nullified for the Javelin. Im not saying you need to erase it completely but it is no longer able to be broke. This started with the Olympics in 1986.for the men and 1999 for the women. Then 2003 for highschools crossed the nation. All records were nullified and restarted. School, league, state, and national records across the board. This all started with uwe hohn a German Olympic team javelin thrower. Set the record for the furthest thrown javelin in human history at 104.80 meters or 343.83ft! That is crazy. And hard to contain in a stadium. Made ut dangerous for spectators. As compared to records now of around 94 meters or 304ft. Which there are talks of another redesign. What happened was the IAAF designed a javelin that is heavier in the tip and the grip was moved back 4 cm. This makes for a 10% loss of distance from the previous design. So im not trying to make anyone take down the records that are displayed. But you do need to add another record to be fair to your post 2003 javelin throwers. The old record can stay as I know there are some impressive distances from our older athletes. Hortons record is over 208ft. That record was set in 1964 or 65 by Ed Morland. The women's record is held by Lachell Hartley. I dont remember the year or distance off the top of my head but I apologize. We will be getting a new record up soon I hope. It will be the IAAF Javelin Record. If you as a athletic director or a coach arent sure who is supposed to be on the board, athletic.net has records starting from 2003 from most schools if they were reported at any time. But kshaa state meet is always reported. So for Horton the IAAF records would belong to Aiden jamvold for the men at 162 ft. And the women's IAAF record would be Daspin Brunning. Whom I have to talk to and get a for sure distance. But thats my 2 cents on the pre 2003 jav records.
