I've realized some people may still think I offer part-time summers. For two summers, I temporarily switched to a part-time summer schedule because it worked really well for the teacher families I had enrolled at the time. It was a win-win and gave me the opportunity to enjoy a little extra time with my own kids during the summer, too. In nearly 20 years as a childcare provider, those were the only two summers I did that. That was just a season, and Sunshine Kids has been back to offering full-time, year-round care.

Next week we're officially starting something new at Sunshine Kids Daycare!

For years I've planned our own monthly themes, crafts, sensory activities, circle time, and all the fun that goes along with them. Years ago, when I was a provider in Topeka, I used a preschool curriculum, but I just never found one I loved.

When I came across Meadowlark Learning, something just stuck out to me and I was very excited to learn more. Every page I've flipped through has made me even more excited for next week. It really seems to fit the way I believe young children learn best.

Of course, you'll still find us outside, getting messy (peep their mud kitchen feeding their pretend horses, yesterday), building forts, reading books, painting, exploring, and following the kids' interests. That's never going to change.

I have a feeling this is going to be a really fun addition to our days, and I can't wait to see what the kids think. I'll be sure to share little snippets along the way! 😊

February has been all about love, feelings, caring, and learning how to be a good friend. 💜

Today we brought those conversations into our art time using heart rainbow pictures and paint sticks, then moved into open-ended creating with cutting, hole punching, gluing on our big paper, and lots of stickers. I love watching them explore, create, and express themselves in their own unique ways while building important skills through play.

Come join our daycare family!

Sunshine Kids Daycare will have a couple of rare openings coming up at the beginning of January! We are located in the Mission Lake area just outside the Horton city limits.

At Sunshine Kids, we focus on play-based learning with guided activities, daily circle time, outdoor play when weather allows, and hands-on experiences that support each child’s development. We are a screen-free program, as I believe children learn best through interaction, movement, and play.

I am a licensed provider with 18 years of experience, excellent references, and I have my Child Development Associate credential. I also serve as the Brown County Childcare Liaison and actively participate in Links to Quality, a statewide program focused on strengthening high-quality childcare practices.

Two openings available, infant through preschool age. I am now accepting interviews and look forward to finding the right fit for our group.

I am CPR and First Aid certified, provide nutritious meals and snacks through CACFP, and participate with Childcare Aware.

My goal is to provide a safe, loving, structured environment while nurturing your child’s mind, independence, and growth through age-appropriate activities.
