What Birth Arts International Offers Students and Graduates
When you certify with Birth Arts International, you don't just get a credential — you get a working infrastructure for building a sustainable birth business. And because certification with BAI is for life, with no renewal fees, no maintenance fees, and no expiration, every resource we build belongs to our graduates as much as our current students. Whether you certified in 2003 or last month, the door is open.
Business-building resources. Every BAI program includes dedicated business training, because a doula who can't sustain her practice can't serve families. Beyond the business modules built into certification, students and graduates have access to a growing professional practice library: pricing guidance and interactive pricing calculators, client contracts and intake forms, confidentiality agreements and HIPAA privacy notices, documentation templates that protect you and your clients, marketing and social media guides, and scope-of-practice resources written in plain language. This is the material nobody teaches you in a certification manual — how to set fees, structure packages, document your work, and run a practice that lasts. Most of our students are running profitable businesses after their first one or two clients.
Medicaid billing — the resource set almost no one else has. Medicaid now covers roughly forty percent of U.S. births, and the doula benefit is the most accessible third-party payment route ever opened to non-licensed birth workers. BAI has built state-by-state Medicaid billing guides for doulas covering more than twenty states plus the District of Columbia—each researched from primary state sources and covering the certification pathway, provider enrollment steps, referral requirements, billable codes and current rates, claim submission, common denial causes, and realistic income modeling. BAI certification is recognized on approved training and certification lists in a growing number of state Medicaid programs, including Virginia, Maryland, Minnesota, Utah, and Illinois, and our guides show students exactly how to use their BAI credential in each state's pathway. We also teach the traps — balance billing rules, referral documentation, and rate modeling — before they cost you money.
Beyond Medicaid. BAI certification is also recognized by Carrot Fertility, Maven, and MyCAA-Spouseworks, state grant programs, and career funding programs, giving graduates additional third-party payment and tuition-funding routes that most training organizations simply don't hold.
Ongoing support and community. Students can call or email the program director directly, join student connection calls, and participate in our student community. The BAI Student Center — open to current students and every graduate — brings the practice, billing, documentation, and business resources together in one place, and it keeps growing.
Once you're BAI, you're BAI. We built the credential to be affordable, the support to be personal, and the resources to be the ones that actually get you paid.
