Programs of Study
ENGINEERING AND ROBOTICS
Engineering I teaches students the history of engineering and the careers associated with the field. This course also teaches technical writing, presenting, and project management. It also teaches students the engineering design process, the steps one follows for successful design planning. Students are also introduced to the advanced concepts of 3-D ske
tching and modeling with SolidWorks, a leading engineering design software. This course also focuses on quality control and the benefits of engineering failure. Robotics is also introduced and is one of the major components of the first year. Students will be building vex robots and applying concepts of electronics, mechanics and programming. Engineering II is a comprehensive course that focuses on the four energy systems: electrical, fluid, mechanical, and thermal. It also introduces students to Computer Integrated Manufacturing, or how robotics and drafting work together to create products. Students will program a robotic arm and learn CNC technology. This course teaches students the concepts of digital electronic control system technology, focusing on electronics, gates, and truth tables. Students learn valuable workforce readiness skills and participate advanced concepts of programming robotic equipment. HEALTH SCIENCES
The Health Sciences program introduces students to various careers in the health care field. Upon completion of the two-year program, students will be trained to work in entry-level positions or be better prepared to continue post-secondary education in the health care field. Students will be certified in CPR at the health care provider level. Students are required to complete 100 hours of clinical experience during their second year. Upon successful completion of Health Sciences I, one Carnegie Unit may count as a science credit toward graduation requirements. AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE
The Automative Service Technology program is aligned with the National Automotive Training Education Foundation standards as outlined by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Successful completion of the two year program will provide students with instruction and training in: brakes, electrical/electronics, engine performance, and steering/suspensions. CONSTRUCTION I and CARPENTRY I
Successful completion of the Construction program prepares students for employment or continued education in the areas of carpentry, electrical wiring, masonry, or plumbing. The Building Trades curriculum is alligned to modules in the Contren Learning Series as endorsed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Students may be eligible to be certified by the NCCER upon completion of the program. First year students may enroll in Construction I and second year students take Carpentry I. CULINARY ARTS I (beginning Fall 2015)
Orientation to Culinary Arts includes a survey of the foundational skills necessary in the foodservice
industry. Content such as food safety and sanitation, equipment, safety and security, culinary foundation, and math, and an introduction to the hospitality industry are included in the course. Theory and applications
of Culinary Arts I emphasizes real-world, hands-on practice of food preparation. Food preparation techniques
included in this course include breakfast foods, dairy, and sandwiches; fruits, vegetables, salads, and
garnishes; and potatoes and grains. Mastery of these objectives will prepare the student to take the NRA's
ServSafe exam to become ServSafe Food Safety certified. CULINARY ARTS II (coming Fall 2016)
DIGITAL MEDIA TECHNOLOGY
The Digital Media Technology program is designed for students who wish to develop, design, and implement projects in the fast growing field of digital media. The program emphasizes the techniques and tools used in digital media and the creative design or content of such media. Both theoretical learning and activity-based l earning are provided for students who wish to develop and enhance their competencies and skills. The course focuses on the basic areas of computer graphics, audio production multimedia, and animation. Exposure to tate-of-the-art equipment is given through advice by experts from industry. Digital Media Technology I encompasses the foundation skills necessary in the digital media industry. Content such as safety, ethical issues and production, photography, graphic design, and print production will be offered to students. The Audio Production and Media Rich Content portion of the course emphasizes real- world, hands-on practice. Students will receive two Carnegie units upon completion of the course. Digital Media Technology II focuses on the process of video production and editing as well as career opportunities in audio and video technology. Another component of the course is motion graphics. This two- Carnegie-unit course should only be taken after students successfully pass Digital Media Technology I. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The Information Technology program will provide students with the basic foundation, skills, and knowledge for computer networking, hardware/software, support, and an introduction to programming. Students will be able to develop, support and integrate computer systems, acquire network planning and management skills, and provide technical support for computer hardware/software issues. Program competencies are designed to prepare students for the A+ certification exam as well as for post-secondary plans in the area of computer engineering. MANUFACTURING TRADES I AND METAL FABRICATION
The Metal Fabrication program provides students with a basic foundation in metal working processes. Second year students further develop their skills by choosing to focus on either the Advanced Welding Option or Advanced Machine Shop Option. Upon completion of the program, students will be ready to begin work in entry level metal trades occupation or to continue study in a post-secondary metal trades program. The curriculum is aligned to modules in the Wheels of Learning program as endorsed by the NCCER. First year students enroll in Manufacturing Trades I and second year students take Metal Fabrication. STUDENT SERVICES
Student Services is a special division of the Career-Tech Center that provides students with comprehensive tutoring on all subjects. Students may get permission from their teacher to visit the Student Services Coordinators during regular class hours when they need help on specific assignments, such as writing and formatting a term paper or getting help before an upcoming trigonometry test. Students should plan their visits in advance of the actual deadlines for the projects that are due to ensure there is adequate time to cover the material.
