PRESS RELEASE: Christian County Schools Receives Approval for Class 6A Reassignment in Football

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (January 20, 2023). The Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Board of Control recently approved a Christian County Public Schools request for Christian County High School football to participate in Class 6A beginning the 2023 playing season. Christian County High School will be assigned to Class 6A, District 1 along with Daviess County, Henderson County, and McCracken County.

CCPS made the request, for the move into Class 6A, to align with the consolidation of Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High School beginning in the 2024 playing season. Football contracts are two-year contracts. By Christian County High School moving to 6A for the 2023 playing season contracts can be honored for both years, while allowing teams contracted with HHS ample time to find replacement games for the 2024 season.

For the 2023 playing season, Christian County High will play the 6A, District 1 schedule. This schedule will continue to be played in 2024 during the inaugural season of the consolidated high school. Hopkinsville High School football will compete, for their final season, in Class 4A, District 1 along with Allen County-Scottsville, Calloway County, Logan County, Paducah Tilghman, and Warren East.

Complete 2023 schedules for both teams will be released at a later date. The final football game between Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High School is scheduled for September 1, 2023, at 7:00 PM at the Stadium of Champions.

Christian County High School Athletic Director Trey Wheeler and Hopkinsville High School Athletic Director Blake Leach announce the hiring of Parish Howell, as the new bowling program coach. Parish is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. He is currently employed at Christian County High School where he serves as an assistant football and wrestling coach. Howell brings 14 years of bowling experience along with seven years of competitive bowling experience to the new program. The 2022-2023 school year will be the inaugural season for the sport at both high schools. Howell will serve as coach for both programs.

"I appreciate this opportunity, and I am looking forward to starting a program for Christian County Public Schools students,” said Coach Parish Howell.

"This is a very exciting hire for both Christian County and Hopkinsville High Schools,” said Trey Wheeler. “Starting a new program to give opportunities to our students is something that we take great pride in. We are looking forward to seeing the program begin and develop with Coach Howell. The experience and knowledge he has of the sport will provide opportunities for growth and competition for our student-athletes.”

Captured here is a view from a staff parking lot. Each entry way to HCCA will have a covered area to protect students and staff from weather. The area to the right of the entry way is the art classroom that also has access to the outside studio.

This is an inside look of an academy media center. Each academy will have its own media center which will be centered around the needs of that academy. Media centers will have flexible seating, meeting rooms and literature resources specific to the particular academy.

Here is a look inside a classroom at HCCA. There are approximately 80 classrooms with 72 of them having natural light and the remaining classrooms having borrowed lighting. Classrooms will have white boards on two walls and a tack board on the third wall. There will be a mobile 75’’ interactive screen for teachers to display information to students.

We are very excited about the development of our Hall of Champions! This will serve as the main entry for events in the gymnasium and the performing arts center. Here we will capture the rich traditions of both HHS and CCHS plus all future accomplishments of HCCA. The logos on the floor are etched into the flooring and will represent all past high schools of Christian County.

Here is a look at the HCCA main media center. This space is approximately 3,000 square feet and includes shelving for books, flexible seating, student work spaces, conference room and digital charging stations.

CCPS is excited to begin sharing newly completed renderings of HCCA. Here is an inside view of the commons area. This area includes the food court, deli, eSports gaming area, student work spaces and flexible seating. The commons area can also be transformed into an area used for student dances, student/staff community meetings, and musical performances on the social staircase.
