Over the weekend on February 11th, the HHS drill team went to Hugenot High School to compete. They won 1st place unarmed exhibition squad led by Aubree Price and Patience Pittman, 2nd place armed exhibition led my Michael Hammond and Kegan Smith, and 2nd place inspection led by George Cabezas. Congratulations Blue Devil Battalion!!

We planned to honor our Cadets with awards for their achievements this year during our annual awards ceremony. Because of COVID-19, we will not be able to do that in person with our Cadets and representatives of the many organizations who sponsor us. We will drive on though! We will figure out a way to get as many of these awards to those who received them as possible, along with photos to capture the moment. Cadets - keep an eye on your email (or other means) to coordinate receiving your award(s). You owe us photos, like these (primarily, you with your certificate and/or medal) as well as a thank-you note to the organization who sponsored the award. Thank you to the many organizations who support an sponsor us, especially in these difficult times.

Zykirria Lewis received the 555th Parachute Infantry Association "Triple Nickle" JROTC Award today. The 555th was the FIRST all-black airborne unit in the US Army's history. What's better??? To receive this award with her grandfather who was an Airborne Infantryman in the 82nd Airborne, following in the footsteps of those very men. EVEN BETTER!?!? It was her 18th birthday today! Happy Birthday Zy!
Zykirria will no doubt go on to do great things in the Army, where she plans to become an Army Nurse or Medical Service Corps Officer. But don't be surprised if she decides to go to Airborne School while she's in ROTC at VSU. Can't wait to see Grandpa pinning on those silver Airborne wings!

HHS Army JROTC has earned the Honor Unit with Distinction Award (the highest level of unit recognition in JROTC) for 17 straight years. This award entitles all HHS JROTC Cadets to wear a gold star above their names on the Cadet ASU to let everyone know they are part of an exceptional program. It also allows the SAI to make recommendations for Cadet to attend the service academies.
