On Thursday , July 2, Hopatcong students, parents, and staff enjoyed Sussex County Miners baseball game at Skylands Stadium. The kids earned free tickets by reading for 300 minutes back in the Spring! Thanks to Sussex County Miners for encouraging our students to keep reading!

Mrs. Mastroviti’s first grade class had a visitor. Nichole Mastroviti from Wild Rose Flower Co. came in and taught the class all about Sunflowers. They learned all about the parts of a plant and what they need to survive and thrive. The class got to get their hands dirty and planted their own Sunflower seeds. They are watching their flowers grow day by day and are VERY excited to take their Sunflowers home to transplant them. Thank you Nichole Mastroviti for sharing your knowledge and passion for flowers.

Today, Addison DeBlock and Levi Dockhorn joined Mrs. McFadden, as Principals for the Day. They were very busy and helped set up for the Read Cycle in the Library. In addition, they labeled boxes of books and led the Hopatcong High School Senior Class of 2026 through the hallways of Durban Avenue School. They were very excited to help with the different tasks. It was a very busy and productive day!

On Monday, June 1, 2026, the Hopatcong Education Association was the proud sponsor of the Durban Avenue Volunteer Dessert and Ice Cream Social at the Durban Avenue School Library.
The parents were invited in to enjoy ice cream and other desserts as a special thank you for making a difference in their child’s school. This event was our way of showing how much we appreciate our amazing, hardworking volunteers. The event was enjoyed by students, parents, staff members, administrators and community members. Thank you to the Hopatcong Education Association for the PEP grant (formerly PRIDE GRANT) and for their continued generous funding of this event.

On Thursday, May 28, Mama's Roxbury generously donated 25 pizzas to the staff and students of Durban Avenue School. The donation was the result of a Facebook contest to determine the best school in Hopatcong, and thanks to the support of our school community, Durban Avenue School was selected as the winner!

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to vote. Nearly 400 slices of pizza were distributed and both students and staff were excited to enjoy the delicious treat. We greatly appreciate Mama's generosity and the support of our community.

On Thursday, May 28th, students at Durban Avenue School participated in a Field/Fun Day. The weather was beautiful and the students enjoyed all of the activities. One student commented, "This is the best day ever!" Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and to HEPTO who provided the inflatable slide and bouncy house!
