You could be saying the most helpful, reasonable thing in the world.

If the person receiving it is activated — racing, defensive, bracing — it just won’t land. Not because they don’t care. Because their nervous system isn’t in a state to receive it yet.

This isn’t about being a better communicator. It’s about checking their state before you check your words. There are usually some clear signs, if you know what to look for.

Practice, not perfection.

Walking Wednesday 🐾 🐶
There's a strange dog in my living room.

Middle of the day, I turn around — and there she is. Just standing there. Calm as anything. Like she'd lived there her whole life.

No neighbor in sight. Just his dog, casually making herself at home. Turns out the sliding door was open and she just walked right in. It happened so fast I didn't even grab my phone in time — by the time I did, she was already back outside.

River was thrilled. I was very confused. The neighbor had no idea she was even gone.

Apparently my house has an open-door policy now.

Hope you’re having a good week— see you next Wednesday. 🐾

I walked into a room and forgot why. Here's what might be going on.

There's real research connecting cumulative stress — allostatic load — to this exact kind of fog.

Your body pulling energy toward survival, away from memory and focus. This kind of fog is incredibly common in midlife — you're far from alone in this.

It changed the question I ask myself: not "what's wrong with me?" but "what does my nervous system need right now?"

If something ever feels different than your usual pattern, that's worth a quick conversation with your doctor, just to be safe.

Save this one for the next time your brain fogs up on you. Follow along — midlife women figuring this out together. 🤍

Still don't know what's ahead with what I mentioned yesterday.

Today it felt lighter than it did yesterday. Tomorrow, who knows. That's just where I'm at.

Anyway. A snake almost ended River and me today.
She saw it before I did. Then I lost my mind, because apparently I hate snakes more than she does.

So there we are — both of us frozen on the trail, having two totally different, equally dramatic reactions to a snake that wanted absolutely nothing to do with either of us.

Update: turns out it wasn't even a garter snake like I said in the video. It's a gopher snake. Which tracks, honestly — hard to correctly ID a snake when your entire plan around snakes is "get away from it," not "get a closer look."

Heavy stuff and a snake I misjudged, all in the same 24 hours. My nervous system doesn't know what to do with itself.

See you next Wednesday. 🐾 🤍

I think some places become part of us.

Not because we visit them...But because something in us settles when we're there.

Leaving is never my favorite part. But every trip reminds me how important it is to notice the places, people, and moments that make us feel a little more like ourselves.

Now it's time to head home... and I have a certain small munsterlander who's expecting Alaska treats. 🐾🤍
Hope you're having a good week.

This happens every time…

I grew up here, I’ve been coming back for years.

Every time I land it hits me the same way-it’s so beautiful here. My body just exhales, it’s hard to explain.

River isn’t here this week. 🐶 Please send her some love if you’re watching this. ❤️

I hope you’re having a good week. See you next Wednesday.
