🎵 “Namaste Care” is about caring for people living with advanced dementia when words begin to fade.

When conversation becomes difficult, connection does not disappear.

A familiar voice.

A gentle touch.

Music.

A favorite scent.

The warmth of another person simply being there.

Namaste Care reminds us to see beyond the disease—to honor the person who is still there. As a geriatrician, I have seen how easily dementia care can become focused on tasks: medications, meals, bathing, safety. But care is more than what we do. It is how we make another human being feel.

That is the lesson behind this song.

💊 Morphine Misunderstood: When Fear Gets in the Way of Comfort

“Does morphine mean the end is near?”

It is a question I have heard many times from patients and families.
Morphine is one of the most misunderstood medications in palliative care. Fear of addiction, sedation, or “giving up” can sometimes prevent people from receiving the comfort they need. That is why I wrote “Morphine Misunderstood,” one of the songs on my Returning Home album.

🎵 The lesson behind the song:
When prescribed appropriately, morphine can be an important medication for relieving pain and breathlessness. Its use in palliative care is not about hastening death—it is about relieving suffering and improving comfort.

🎨 The visual companion: “Mercy Falls”
The waterfall represents easy breathing. Water flows naturally and effortlessly over the rocks—without struggling, without forcing its way forward. That sense of effortless flow is what the painting is meant to evoke: the relief that can come when the distress of breathlessness is eased.

🎵 Returning Home – Song 4: Painful Climb

Pain doesn't have to be endured in silence.

Painful Climb teaches one of the most important concepts in palliative care—the World Health Organization (WHO) Pain Ladder. Like climbing a staircase one step at a time, pain management follows a thoughtful, stepwise approach, helping clinicians relieve suffering while maintaining quality of life.

The accompanying painting, Stairway to Heaven, reminds us that every step we take to relieve pain is an act of compassion.

My hope is that this song helps families understand that effective pain management is not about giving up—it is about living as comfortably and fully as possible.

It's been an exciting week of sharing the message behind Returning Home!

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of joining Maui KRM Internet Radio, courtesy of Rey Patoc, and today I was honored to be a guest on Pinoy Power KPRP 650 AM with Cesar Bonilla.

🎵 Returning Home is Now Available on Spotify & Apple Music! 🎵

After months of anticipation, I'm delighted to share that Returning Home is now available on Spotify and Apple Music, joining YouTube and other major streaming platforms.

The journey took a little longer than expected because I made one important change along the way—transitioning to my artist name, Dr. RitaBelle. Updating the artist metadata across multiple streaming services proved to be more complicated than I had imagined, and the name change created unexpected delays. I'm grateful that everything is finally in place.

As an added surprise this week, Hawaii's VOICE MidWeek gave Returning Home a hanahou—an encore by republishing the feature about the album. In Hawaiʻi, hanahou means "one more time," and I was deeply honored to see the story shared again.

🎵 Returning Home – Song 2: Tiny Bites 🎨

Every painting in the Returning Home Heaven Series is intentionally paired with a song. Together, they create a visual and musical way to teach important lessons in palliative care.

Tiny Bites was inspired by one simple message:
Small bites. Slow sips.

Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) is common in people living with dementia and other serious illnesses. Taking smaller bites, slowing down, and creating a calm mealtime environment can help reduce the risk of choking and aspiration.

The companion painting, Tiny Blooms, reminds us that small acts of care can have a profound impact. Just as tiny blossoms come together to create something beautiful, small changes at mealtime can help preserve comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

So instead of writing another textbook, I created Returning Home-a 12-song educational album where every song teaches a meaningful lesson through music.
