Traditional malas have 108 beads, plus one larger “guru” (teacher) or “meru” (mountain) bead that is not counted, but signals the user that a cycle of prayer or meditation is complete. The number 108 is sacred and connected to a multitude of natural ratios and phenomena and is directly correlated with the golden mean or Fibonacci sequence that gives structure to many growth cycles in nature. 🤓📿🕉
