than can be read in a book."
~Carl Jung

THE BODHI TREE (pronounced boh-dee) - is an experience-based art school, a place to dream and to grow. It is a working art studio that provides a journey into understanding world cultures through art, music and movement. We use this journey as a tool to explore self-efficacy and our sense of belonging and community with

all peoples of the world while using humor, imagination and creative self-expression as fuel for the ride. Our name originates from the story of Siddhartha who sat under the Bodhi Tree and awoke to the world, finding what he was seeking. In The Bodhi Tree, some may be looking for fun, adventure or a supportive artists’ community, some may be looking to grow and learn, some may come with a desire to heal. The Bodhi Tree Art School and Studio provides group art classes for kids and adults, art shows and gallery events, poetry readings, one-night DIY art workshops, the occasional spontaneous underground dance party and community oriented collaborations with some stellar non-profits in our area like The Cooperage Project and the Wayne County Arts Alliance. In our kids’ classes, children are offered many opportunities to be involved in the group dynamic at whatever confidence level they are at. The Bodhi Tree strives to create an environment that is safe and protective to children who may not be as secure, and yet gently challenging to children who could benefit from a more dynamic group experience. in Graphic Design and an M.A. in Studio Art/Painting. Heather has done graduate studies at the Instituto Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy, through Drake University. She has instructed students in various media both privately and in groups since 1989. She has ten years experience working in children’s mental health, at Children’s Services Center In Wilkes-Barre, PA and at the E.I.B.I. of the Northeast Regional Autism Center at Friendship House in Scranton, PA where she taught toddlers on the autism spectrum. She has spent four years at The Highlights Foundation at Boyds Mills, the non-profit of Highlights for Children Magazine, where children’s book writers and illustrators come to hone their craft. She's also had the pleasure of teaching Art Enrichment at Bethany Children's House Montessori Preschool with the lovely Ms. Alison Myers. Heather spent six years as a Job and Habilitation Coach for high school students and adults with disabilities in Wayne County. Heather’s current work includes freelancing in design and food styling and personal work in illustration, design and photography. JAMES M. SPENCER IV is a potter and sculptor who has taught work with clay and other three-dimensional art to children and adults both in the therapeutic setting and privately since 1997. He is a graduate of Marywood University and Millersville University, currently holding an M.S. in Clinical Psychology. Spencer has eight years experience as a family therapist, utilizing family, group and art therapies with children, adolescents and adults. He spent five years as a Care Manager at Community Care in Moosic, and is currently the Senior Director of Clinical Management at Northeast Behavioral Health Care Consortium in Moosic, PA, serving Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming and Susquehanna counties. And that my friends is a wrap!

Another Summer Kids' Art Camps 2026 at The Bodhi Tree Art Studio in the books!

Thank you to every family who came through our doors this summer and to every shortie who brought creativity, laughter, kindness and friendship to their peers and our space! We love and appreciate every one of you and cherish the memories we made together. ❤️

To the families who have been with us for the last four years, you are the lifeblood of our studio, and your support keeps us afloat and allows us to help our community and its members through the arts all year long. Thank you for supporting us in making a living doing what we love.

As many of our young shorties are growing up to enroll in the older age group classes, we were delighted to meet all the fresh new artists and their families this year! What a joy it is to introduce new kiddos to our space, watch new friendships grow and get inspired by brilliant fresh minds! Thank you for all of the memories!

To our "Parent Ambassador" extraordinaire Michelle Budzilowicz, you kept us sane and kept everything running smoothly - we adore you, are eternally grateful for you and your mud-loving shortie and I'm very much looking forward to seeing you for more than a fleeting two minutes at pick-up!

To our helper sisters Adison and Siena- your hard work, lovely nurturing ways with our shorties and bonus art and engineering talent have enriched the camp experience for our families and for us as well- we are so proud of and grateful for you both! Love you!!! 💞

Ivan! Every day you popped in to help out this summer was an absolute joy, as was sharing our pics of you as a tiny art-ant in the first incarnation of the studio in Honesdale! The kiddos love you and so do we, always. ❤️ Thank you!

We're going to take a few days to rest, catch up with family and friends, find all of the lost art game pieces and deeeeeep clean! (You guys sure do find creative places to lose parts of your lunch and your belongings!)

Then it's back to work for us! Keep an eye out for Fall, Winter and Spring:

Kids' Weekend Art Labs
Kids' After School Workshops
Adult Art Camp Nights! (🤘🏽🤘🏽)
Adult Art Classes and Workshops
Teen and Adult Throwing on the Potter's Wheel and Hand Building Clay Classes
The return of Teen Open Studio
The return of Adult Open Studio
And..... ✨💫🌟✨

Can't wait to see you all again soon, making art and memories!

Much Love,

Heather, Spencer and Luna 🐾
