Our Fall Stewardship Days are happening this Wednesday & Thursday, October 14th and 15th from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and we'd love to have you join us out on the trail!

How beautiful is the Honeoye Valley during fall? Bright leaves falling into the inlet, cooler temperatures, changing wildlife behavior, and so much more to explore.

Bring yourself, friends, and family to Muller Field Station's Fall Open House on Sunday, October 18th from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. for an afternoon of outdoor exploration, family fun, and learning. Activities include a scavenger hunt through our 48-acre property, pumpkin painting, nature journaling, macroinvertebrate sampling, and guided paddles at 1:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.

Guests will even get a chance to bid on silent auction items to support our growing stewardship plans and education programs. No registration necessary- come as you are!

No school doesn't mean learning has to stop! Children in grades 4-8 are welcome to attend a fun-filled "Kids Day Outside" program at Muller Field Station next Monday, October 12th.

Participants will explore swamp habitat by canoe to learn about wetland species, wander through old fields in search of birds and fall foliage, and participate in conservation activities such as trail camera monitoring and water quality testing.

Cost: $15/child

Friday Wander and Wonder Walk is tomorrow!!!! Join us at 9am at fire pit. Our special guest tomorrow (10/2) is Catherine Farrell, Catherine is the Aquatic Invasive Species Program Manager for the Finger Lakes Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (FLPRISM) and the Finger Lakes Institute (FLI). She coordinates monitoring efforts and adaptive management strategies to understand and mitigate the effects of aquatic invasive species (AIS) across 17 counties within the Finger Lakes region. Catherine additionally establishes and maintains partnerships with local and statewide organizations to accomplish shared goals through collaborative AIS management activities and outreach in targeted areas. Catherine’s background includes AIS fieldwork in other parts of New York State and performing ecological research in graduate school, studying ant seed dispersal response to land-use change.

Reminder: These community nature walks are free and open to the public, no registration necessary. We wander rain or shine! Boots and long pants are recommended as we will go through muddy spots and areas that ticks may be present. Our loop is just under one mile on even terrain.

We've experienced a drop in temperatures over the last few weeks, signaling that winter is just a few short months away. Some wildlife, like this bobcat pictured on our channel trail, still hunt prey during the winter months but become a bit more active this time of year to find food to store more fat in their bodies in case the cold and snow hinder food availability.

Nature! Inquiry! Community! All this and more at our weekly Wander and Wonder Walks. We start at 9am on Fridays from our parking lot. Michelle Ostroff is our special guest this week. She is a sustainability student at SUNY ESF, Muller Field Station's Field Studies Assistant, and our guest speaker for next week's Talk on the Wildside on South African ecology and wildlife tracking. She is also an incredibly kind, inquisitive, and intuitive soul. Looking forward to this meander with her- and you! Hope you can join us.
