📚➕ From Your Osage County Interlocal Teaching & Learning Team

Welcome back! As you begin a new school year, we hope you find time to reconnect, build relationships, and create math classrooms where every student feels comfortable thinking, wondering, making mistakes, talking, and sharing ideas.

Those first days of math class matter. Before diving into content, we have an opportunity to show students what it means to learn mathematics together. Here are a few resources to help you get started:

🌱 START WITH UNIT ZERO
The Oklahoma Math Framework's Unit Zero is a great place to begin. It includes ideas and activities for building mathematical mindsets, establishing classroom practices, and helping students see math as something we make sense of together.

❤️ As you begin the year, give yourself permission to spend time building the mathematical community you want. Relationships, routines, discourse, curiosity, and a willingness to make mistakes are not separate from mathematics. They are part of how students learn mathematics.

From all of us on the Osage County Interlocal Teaching & Learning Team, we wish you and your students a wonderful start to the school year filled with thinking, talking, wondering, and making sense together! 🍎➕✏️

25 districts. One room. Endless mathematical thinking.

What happens when educators from across Oklahoma come together to rethink mathematics? Powerful conversations, meaningful collaboration, and classrooms transformed by curiosity.

Our Summer Teacher Math Camp brought together educators from 25 school districts, organizations, and partners to explore joyful mathematics through rich tasks, mathematical discourse, hands-on learning, and classroom-ready strategies. Together, we learned with Annie Fetter, engaged in interactive math stations, and explored sessions on fractions, proportional reasoning, number sense, geometry, and thinking routines.

Here's what participants had to say:

💬 "Notice and Wonder! We have to get kids to think."

💬 "I love the open-ended thinking and talking ideas on how to let all kids feel successful in class."

💬 "Sense-making activities bring joy and belonging."

💬 "Using Notice and Wonder gets the entire class involved and valued."

💬 "I realized I need to listen to all student ideas."

💬 "Working with teachers across grade levels helped me understand how mathematical concepts develop from elementary through high school. It gave me a better understanding of how to intentionally build student learning."

When we asked what educators wanted next, the message was clear:

⭐ More math.
⭐ More hands-on learning.
⭐ More Notice & Wonder.
⭐ More classroom-ready tasks and games.
⭐ More opportunities for K-12 educators to learn together.

Thank you to Annie Fetter, our presenters, the Mathematical Association of America, the John and Mary Neff Foundation, the Oklahoma State University Department of Mathematics, and every educator who chose to spend a summer day learning together.

Together, we're building math classrooms where curiosity comes before procedures, every voice matters, and students experience the joy of making sense of mathematics.
