[1:15 AM CDT Update 8/12/2026]

So far storms have failed to develop early this AM. While this is a good thing for those concerned about hail overnight, we are becoming more concerned that this may allow for a more robust complex of storms to move across parts of the area today. Stay tuned.

Previous Post Text:

The potential for another round of severe thunderstorms is increasing for overnight tonight. The primary hazards with any storms that develop will be damaging hail and torrential rainfall which may lead to flash flooding. Damaging wind gusts will also be possible with the strongest storms and it may not take much wind to cause additional tree damage given many were weakened from the destructive line of storms earlier today. Have multiple ways to receive warning information, including ones that will wake you up!

After the recent tornado, storms and two single family residential structure fires over the last couple of weeks, our Red Shift added a working hi-rise fire in the mix yesterday. Homewood Firefighters with the help of our auto-aid crews, quickly and efficiently deployed to to a working fire on the the 5th floor of a six-story, multi-family residential building, bringing the fire under control before spreading to adjacent units. Thank you to all of the surrounding communities that were called to the scene to assist with both Fire and EMS tasks. Thankfully there were no serious injuries to resident or responding crews. Training, experience and professionalism all pay off on the fire ground!
