On this Memorial Day, we bow in solemn respect.
At Black Mountain Spirit, we carry a lineage steeped in the military traditions of ancient Chinese martial arts—a path walked by warriors who upheld honor, sacrifice, and service. As a martial arts school rooted in warrior tradition, we know that the highest purpose of strength is to protect others. Those who made the ultimate sacrifice lived that truth. Today, we stand in silent tribute to those in our own nation who made the ultimate sacrifice—those who, in defense of others, gave their lives in service.
Their courage echoes in the movements we practice.
Their discipline lives in the spirit we cultivate.
Their legacy is not forgotten.
We offer our deepest gratitude to the fallen, to their families, and to all who continue to serve.
We’re grateful. We remember.
And we train in their honor.
May our practice be worthy of the path they forged.
With respect,
The students and instructors of The Black Mountain Spirit Family

What what did I do for my birthday?
I didn’t go out for dinner.
I didn’t have a drink or get turned up with my boys.
But I did have a fun and exciting evening,
I was able to celebrate my physical health, community of friends, and really experience my own personal excitement and energy of youth!

It’s important in this life to find a philosophical doctrine that allows you to explore who and what you are as a Being. For myself and others, that path is set forth in the philosophy of Taoism. Here, we find an insightful view into a single stanza of its core text - yet the depth of such simple words is boundless.
