📚💛 A huge THANK YOU to the Homer Public Library for being such an incredible community partner to Homer Head Start this year! 💛📚

Every month, our students looked forward to visits from the Children's Librarian, Ms. Cinda, for a special story and craft time that sparked imagination, curiosity, and a love of reading. And of course… one of the biggest highlights was getting to explore BOB the Bookmobile and choose a special book to read over the summer!

These experiences do so much more than just share books; they help build early literacy skills, expand vocabulary, encourage listening and storytelling, and show our children that reading can be joyful, exciting, and lifelong.

We are so grateful for partnerships like this that help connect our students to the larger community and reinforce the value of education, collaboration, and learning together. Thank you for helping our little learners grow into confident readers and book lovers!

🎓✨ Celebrating Our Very Own Hero - Kaitlyn Von Buelow! ✨🎓

We are so incredibly proud of our Homer Head Start Teacher’s Aide, Ms. Kaitlyn, who recently graduated from Kenai Peninsula College with her nursing degree AND also completed her Child Development Associate (CDA) through her work here at Head Start! 💛

Kaitlyn began her journey with Homer Head Start as a substitute 2-years ago, before joining the team full time as a Teacher’s Aide for the 2025-2026 year. She has poured her heart into our classroom, supporting children, families, and staff with dedication and care. We are beyond grateful for the impact she’s made and the difference she’s helped create in our program.

As a Coast Guard family, she and her family will be relocating to the British Virgin Islands, and while we are excited for her next adventure, we are definitely going to miss her next year!

Kaitlyn - congratulations on this amazing achievement. We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see all the incredible things you’ll do next! 💐🎉

🐟✨ Huge THANK YOU to Homer Fish Processing✨🐟 We’re feeling extra grateful (and well-fed!) thanks to their generous donation of salmon, halibut, rockfish, and fun stickers. Because of this gift, our kids are enjoying nutritious, locally-sourced seafood during the school day.

There’s something really special about sharing cultural, place-based foods with our students. It helps them connect to where they live, learn where their food comes from, and celebrate the resources all around us. Experiences like this go beyond nutrition -- they're part of learning, identity, and belonging.

Community support is what make Homer Head Start so strong. When communities come together, children and families thrive!

🌎💚 Happy Earth Day from Homer Head Start! 💚🌎
We’ve been celebrating all week by learning about our Earth, how to be good stewards of our environment, and the animals that share our home here in Alaska. 🐾🌿

With help from our friends at Howl Alaska, our students explored what it means to care for our community and have proudly stepped into their roles as Head Start Protectors 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️!! No litter bugs here… we’re helpers, cleaners, and caretakers!

Through these experiences, children are building:
🌱 Environmental awareness and responsibility
🧠 Early science skills as they learn about animals and habitats
🤝 Community connection through local partnerships
🚶‍♀️ Teamwork and cooperation while working together outdoors
💛 Pride and ownership in caring for their community

✨ Join us on Saturday, April 25th! We’ll be at the HOWL Dirtbag Clean-Up at Bishop’s Beach. Current families and those considering Head Start for next year are all welcome to be part of our team!

Let’s work together to keep Homer beautiful and teach our kids that even small hands can make a big difference. 💚
