The District covers 27 square miles, and its boundaries include portions of the village of Homer Glen, the city of Lockport and unincorporated Homer Township. 🏗Teamwork takes practice!

Hadley 5th graders in Mrs. Corcoran's class put their SEL skills to work during a hands-on challenge: building a structure out of straws while working together to solve a problem. Students practiced teamwork, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving as they worked in groups to turn a simple pile of straws into a structure.

Sometimes, the best way to learn how to work together is to... well, work together! 💚

✅Classroom Challenge: build the tallest freestanding tower using only marshmallows and spaghetti. Ms. Balasa's 4th graders at Schilling worked in teams, tested their designs, rebuilt when things toppled, and learned firsthand what real engineering looks like: plenty of trial, error, and problem solving!

🏫Getting to know each other, day by day! 📚

Students at Schilling kicked off the school year getting to know their classmates--from partner activities uncovering surprising similarities and differences in Ms. McGuire's class, to free play and friendly conversation during "Fun Friday" last week in Ms. Baetzel's class, not to mention the new friendships forming on the bus ride in. A great start to building community at Schilling!

Recess routines, teamwork, and bonding were on display at Butler this week. Assistant Principal Gage instructed students about recess lineup procedures. Students throughout the building took on 'Significant 72' team-building challenges, like Ms. Plesek's 3rd graders, who built index card towers where every card had to share something written on it that the whole group had in common. When towers fell, teams had to come up with new things in common to build on. Great teamwork all around by students and staff! 🐎

🛝First days look a little different across grades at Young! First graders picked up recess right where they left off, while our newest kindergartners practiced lining up for lunch and finding their way (quietly) through the halls (they got to have fun on the playground too!) 😎 It has been a big first week for everyone!
