We are just hours away from Alumni Weekend, folks! Here's a rundown of events --
If your class hasn't gotten their window decorated, you'll have to get up early tomorrow because the committee will be judging the windows after lunch. Many classes will be having gatherings Friday evening at various locations.
Saturday morning we'll all meet at the parking lot on the east side of the high school to prepare for the parade around the square. We will go counterclockwise on the first trip, then turn around and go back around the opposite direction and back to the school. Again, classes are gathering all over town, so don't be surprised if you stumble into a party or two. The Class of '81 has a few from their class performing -Class of '81 Jamboree- at Banner Lake (details in the comments) from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. At 5:30, the Social Hour begins at the NE Kansas Heritage Hall Complex followed by the Banquet. And let's keep the party going at the After Party from 9:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with Amp Squad, playing tunes from all eras. Karaoke will be available, too.
That pretty much covers alumni activities, but while you're in town, be sure and take in the sights and sounds of Holton. Glory Days starts Saturday morning on the town square with vendors selling an array of products and a large car show. There are great shops - Beverley Brown & Co, More Than Lemons, Heart to Home, The Mercantile, the Go@ssip, and 785 Antiques - to browse and find a great variety of items. Pretty sure you will not walk out empty-handed. There are also great places to grab a coffee, sandwich, pizza - just about anything you might be hungry for. Check out Jhett's Pizza, China, Boomers' Steakhouse & Grill, or El Ranchito (there are several more). You won't go hungry! More Than Lemons (April Lemon) has provided 126 orbs that the Jackson County Tourism Council has hidden in public places in each of the county's towns. Keep your eyes peeled when you're out and about. And while you're looking, check out the murals various artists have painted around town, especially the "Holton" mural located at 5th and New York. And don't forget the banners honoring our veterans. In our opinion, this is one of the best things Holton does, having them in place for Memorial Day weekend. Lastly, we highly recommend seeing the flags lining the drives at the Holton Cemetery, the fountain at the City Lake, the bear tree carved by HHS alum Gerald Copeland (west side of the square), and the gazebo and flower gardens at the city pool.
