Early Learners 1st Steps

Early Learners 1st Steps We are a licensed infant/toddler home daycare in Holton,KS. We also offer “Big Kids” care at our 2nd program
“Early Learners Next Steps! Dependable Care.

(Previously “Connie’s Daycare”) About our Program:
Our approach to child development is based on our belief that children are naturally eager to learn and capable of initiating learning in a well prepared environment. Our environment and provider interaction is our main focus for the kids’ development. We offer infant and toddler safe toys in open storage spaces at eye level of our infants and to

ddlers. This encourages them to explore the various materials on their own. Providers sit on the floor with the children and interact and play alongside them as much as possible. What we have to offer:
Christian/Veteran Family Owned with Christian activities included in our daily routine. Some of our books are Bible stories. TV time is limited, but we do subscribe to Yippee TV for wholesome content if the TV is used. We love Listener Kids Christian music. Age Specific Environments: We have 2 Programs. Toys and activities in this program, “First Steps”, specifically target the developmental needs of infants and toddlers while keeping them safe from toys and activities that are not safe for their age group. Our 2nd program, Early Learners Next steps is designed specifically for children 2 and older. This allows providers the ability to meet the specific needs of each age group. We have one consistent, experienced, & highly qualified main provider with our infants and toddlers every day. When openings are filled, or it is needed, a 2nd assistant provider as needed, allowing lots of cuddle time and extra hands to meet the various needs of our young ones in care. We prefer to have 2 Providers, but of course we have to have openings filled to allow the financial ability to do so. Having 2 providers gives us the flexibility to divide up to offer outdoor play or another activity at the same time others are needing a nap, feeding, or to be inside. Adult/Child Ratios set by KDHE are followed in both of our programs. We offer a warm, Caring Atmosphere in our home environment

Clean, safe environment. Toys and surfaces are cleaned daily. Cleaning schedules are followed to ensure we keep a safe environment for the kids and providers in our program. Child Centered Routines: We do not “Train” infants to fit into a set schedule or routine. Infants are fed and napped when they indicate they are hungry or tired. Toddlers do have a flexible schedule that we do adjust as we need to, according to their needs. Multiple Providers on Staff to avoid provider burnout & offer parents a dependable program. We have multiple providers who work between both of our programs to cover requested time off for providers, & provider sicknesses. Holiday/Personal Closings are set annually, so families know what to plan for. It is very rare that our programs close unexpectedly as we have staff to cover provider absences. Experienced Providers Owner/Director/Provider: Connie Ramirez has over 21 years experience in child care/educational settings,. We also have 2 long time Providers, with over 5 years experience each. Separate, safe, nap time space, allowing peaceful rest times for our babies that nap at different times of the day. Providers follow Safe Sleep guidelines and physically check on infants at least every 15 minutes while napping. Staff are all trained on Safe Sleep and go above and beyond Safe Sleep guidelines

Highly Qualified Staff: Providers are well trained. Every provider has KBI fingerprint background check, child development training, basic child care training required by KDHE. Additionally each provider goes through a program specific orientation and is trained and supervised to follow the specific high quality practices specific to our programs. Every provider is supervised and evaluated by Connie Ramirez. Annual training is based on each provider’s need determined by Connie’s evaluations and what area that provider feels they can improve. Healthy/Active Lifestyle Encouraged. We serve nutritious whole grains & fresh meats daily. We make most of our own baby food using fresh produce and organic meat sources. Active play is scheduled into our daily routine with our indoor and outdoor play. Tummy time/floor time is encouraged. Stationary equipment is very limited to encourage natural exploration and development of gross motor skills. Outdoor play is provided daily (weather permitting) on our astroturf playground in our fenced in yard. Our outdoor space is set up for safe play focused specifically on infant and toddler development

Brightwheel software is used to keep families up to date on their child’s daily activities and offers online payment options and reports. Parent involvement is encouraged

Family get togethers/parties are organized annually

Do any of you know of a pair of “sock shoes” that work for 1 year olds who despise shoes? What do you recommend?

Target 🎯 Toddler Water Safety -- don't be fooled by USCG stamps, both of these PFDs perform very differently.

✅The PFDs on the left allow your toddler to move their arms freely. They have proper padding in the neck and chest that will rotate your toddler to the face-up floating position.

🚫The PFDs on the right restrict their arm movement and keep their body in the drowning position. These also provide a false sense of security and support poor swim posture.
