Designing, Building & Exploring Weather!

Today in 3rd grade science, Mrs. Cooke brought their weather unit to life with a Rain Gauge Design Challenge!

Students first observed and studied how real rain gauges work. Then, they worked through the engineering design proces of sketching ideas, discussing designs with their groups, and building their own models with selected materials and constraints.

One of the best parts? No two rain gauges looked exactly alike! Each group came up with its own unique design and had the opportunity to test ideas, problem-solve, collaborate, and make adjustments along the way.

Hands-on STEM experiences like this show students that there can be more than one solution to a problem and that creativity, curiosity, and teamwork are just as important as the final product.
