That's a wrap! South Florida's premier TEDx Talk event wrapped up this past weekend with Francis Suarez, Mayor of Miami, headlining with a talk on the city's and region's efforts to attract and support world-class technology and financial services companies. John Wensveen, Ph.D., Chief Innovation Officer at Nova Southeastern University and Exec Director of the NSU Broward Center of Innovation followed with a discussion of the infrastructure that supports innovation and entrepreneurship.
Following the innovation talks, another 10 speakers discussed everything from healthy aging and elder-care planning (Nikki Austin-Shipp, M.B.A. and Cynthia Guy MD) to solving the homeless crisis (Dr. Ben Sorensen - Fort Lauderdale) and addressing environmental challenges (Kyle Lansing and Kristina Centnere).
A highlight was South Florida's unofficial poet laureate discussing the role of arts and literature in elevating young lives - and the community along with them (Darius Daughtry).
Jeanne Lewis Albaugh, speaking about rising out of homelessness, and Philip Phil Cohen, discussing how to navigate grief, added an emotional note to the event in sharing their personal stories.
Patrick A. Lynch finished the afternoon with a talk on his personal fight with cancer -- and the life lessons that it taught him.
The individual talks will be posted and promoted online after the New Year.
