Our second graders received a surprise visit today from the Charleston Riverdog himself.
The Charleston Riverdogs and CCSD have continued the “ Reading Across the Bases” Initiative which was developed to promote having fun while reading with second graders throughout the county. The students loved this surprise visit and enjoyed being one of the schools that was chosen for this initiative.

As we know, it is extremely important for students to find the joy in reading at an early age.

Minicat Community Circle

Yesterday, Our minicats had House Meetings and Community Circle. In the House Meetings, we reminded our Minicats of the expectations of R- Responsibility. The students chatted about what it looks like in the classroom and how we can be more responsible everyday, even at home.

At this Community Circle, we welcomed our new staff member - Mr. Sparks into our minicat family. He also spun the RCA House wheel and landed in the Green House . The Marvelous Minicat award went Mrs. Lockerman for her high level of dedication to our students. Mrs. Lockerman holds our students to high expectations and they are rising to the occasion to perform. We thank you for everything that you do for our Minicat family , Mrs. Lockerman.

Minicats Representing !!

Our minicats had the privilege to showcase some of their talents at the ChuckTown Youth symposium at James Island Charter High . At Minnie Hughes, we prioritize nurturing the gifts in the classroom and beyond the classroom. We enjoy giving students the opportunity to showcase their abilities in new environments so that fear doesn’t get a chance to set in. Our Minicat Gospel Choir along with our PURR Steppers represented Minnie Hughes well. The Minicats really made us proud. Videos will be posted shortly.

Mini-Cat Bonding!

Our students had a very special visit today from Books & Beyond, a wonderful local organization that helps spread the importance of all things reading. Students talked about the importance of reading and how to pick a “just right” book, then each student got to pick two free books to take home. We’re thankful for opportunities to help spread the joy of reading!
