’Twas the Night Before School

’Twas the night before school, and all through St. John’s,
The halls were all quiet, the summer was gone.
The backpacks were packed and the pencils were new,
And everyone wondered, “What will we do?”

The teachers were ready, their classrooms were bright,
With bulletin boards sparkling and lessons just right.
They prayed for their students, both big ones and small,
And asked God to bless them, each one and them all.

Mrs. McDonough checked every classroom with care,
Making sure all was ready and set everywhere.
The bells would soon ring, the school year would start,
With faith, love, and learning at the very heart.

The children lay sleeping—or tried to, at least—
While dreaming of friends and the year’s first feast.
“Will my teacher be fun? Will I make a new friend?
How long until lunch and recess begin?”

At St. John’s, we know there’s much more than a grade,
For faith is the foundation on which we are made.
We learn to be kind, to forgive and to share,
To serve one another and show that we care.

We’ll gather together, with hearts open wide,
With God as our guide and our faith by our side.
We’ll laugh, we’ll learn, and we’ll sometimes make mistakes,
But each day is a gift and a new step we take.

So welcome, dear students! The time has arrived!
A brand-new school year is ready and alive.
May Mary watch over us, Jesus lead the way,
And may God bless St. John’s school each day.

So grab your backpacks and get ready to go—
There’s knowledge to gain and friendships to grow!
With faith in our hearts and a smile on our face—

Thank you to all the families who joined us last night for Back to School Night! It was great seeing our halls and classrooms filled again. We also want to thank our HSA President Adam Miller and Vice Principal Caroline Shadforth for providing the refreshments, along with tables of information regarding our HSA fundraisers, and greeting our families. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Eden Rycyzyn as our Kindergarten Teacher's Aide. She graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She comes to us with many years of experience. Most recently she was at Lexington Park Baptist Church Pre-School and Kindergarten, where she taught in the 4 year old program. We are very blessed to have her as part of our SJS team for the 2026-2027 school year.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Isabella Kuches to St. John's School as our Pre-K4 Teacher's Aide. She graduated from Ava Maria University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology. Most recently she worked at Basilica School of St. Mary in Alexandra, Virginia as a 3rd grade teacher and taught religion as a Catechist. We are so happy to have her as part of our SJS team!

We are happy to announce Ms. Hannah Lawrence has joined the staff at St. John’s School as our 2nd grade teacher. Ms. Lawrence graduated from Ave Maria University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Theology. Ms. Lawrence has had experience in the classroom teaching theology at St. Mary's Ryken High School. She also has experience working with multiple families supporting educational and enrichment activities tailored to students' individual learning needs.

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Andrea Sharr as our 3rd grade teacher. She comes to us with 11 years of experience teaching 3rd grade at a local parochial school. Mrs. Sharr is a graduate of Saint Francis University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. Her daughter Amelia with be in 1st grade, and her son Avery will be in Pre-K at SJS.
