Someone walked into the room at red.

Three days later, he said one word: “Green.”

17 public safety professionals.

5 Indiana counties.

17 new MAGNUS | ONE Wellness Coaches.

But those numbers aren’t the story.

The story is what started happening before the training was even over.

People went home and had more patience with their children.

They regulated themselves during stressful conversations with their spouses.

Someone used breathing techniques and finally fell asleep.

Someone experienced a stressful moment without letting it become a stressful day.

And two participants stood in front of their peers and admitted the training had become a mirror, showing them how much they had been carrying and how much they wanted to change.

By day three, not one person in the room identified as orange or red.

This is what public safety wellness has to become.

Not another reminder to “be resilient.”

Not another program sitting on a shelf.

Practical tools people can use at 2 a.m., after the hard call, during the difficult conversation, and when they walk through their own front door.

Because the same person walks through both doors.

Leadership has to hold when the pressure rises.

On September 23, more than 30 law enforcement leaders came together in Kingston, New York, for a one-day Elastic Leadership Workshop led by NCSC instructor Justin King.

Hosted by Sheriff Juan Figueroa and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the room brought together jail supervisors, administrative leaders, deputies, and law enforcement professionals from across the surrounding area.

Different roles. Different responsibilities. One shared challenge:

How do you lead effectively when the environment around you keeps changing?

Elastic Leadership gives leaders practical strategies to adapt, make clearer decisions under pressure, navigate conflict, and lead without losing themselves in the process.

Day one in Grand Junction, Colorado. Two weeks from now, they’ll leave as Command & Staff graduates.

A new chapter of the National Command & Staff College Command & Staff Leadership Program began, hosted by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Justin King kicked off the residency with Elastic Leadership, challenging these law enforcement leaders to think differently about how they adapt, make decisions, and lead when the environment around them refuses to stay predictable.

And this is just the beginning.

Over the next two weeks, these professionals will learn together, challenge one another, bring different perspectives from their agencies into the room, and prepare to return home stronger than when they arrived.

Then they’ll join the growing ranks of NCSC Command & Staff graduates.
