Some parents leave the diagnosis off the form.
We understand why. They have been turned away somewhere before, and they have learned that the word βautismβ or βADHDβ can make a program go quiet. So they hold it back and hope their child blends in.
Here is what we want every family to know: a diagnosis is not a disqualifier at Resource Room. It is a map. The more you share with us, the better we can guide your child, and the better we can guide you.
When a challenge stays hidden, we end up helping with one hand tied behind our back. When you tell us the whole story, we can plan, adjust, and bring in the right support before the first hard moment ever happens.
You do not even need a formal diagnosis to say something. If something feels off, tell us.
Come as you are. Bring the whole story. That is what lets us say yes.

π Look at how fast this has changed.
Autism diagnoses in the U.S., by the numbers:
2000 β‘οΈ 1 in 150
2016 β‘οΈ 1 in 54
2020 β‘οΈ 1 in 36
2022 β‘οΈ 1 in 31
Read that again. In just over 20 years, autism prevalence among 8-year-olds has gone from 1 in 150 children to 1 in 31. That's nearly a 5x jump.
Today, boys are diagnosed at more than 3 times the rate of girls. And here in North Carolina, the numbers run even higher than the national average.
These aren't just statistics. They're families. Classrooms. Kids who need the right support, and parents trying to figure out where to turn.
That's exactly why quality services matter more than ever, and why families deserve quality supports.
We wrote about what's behind these numbers, how to spot quality services, and why not every provider is created equal.

Behavior Therapy has been in the news, people online questions Autsim services - in this Blog Post we cut though the noise. Autism numbers are rising - and NO it is not because of better detection. Some services feel "scammy" BUT there are many GOOD people doing GREAT work.
