While I.m not offering classes right now, my friend and colleague is. Take a look!

You asked for it and here it is. I will doing sewing classes five days a week starting in January. Kids classes will be Mondays, Wednesdays or Saturdays. Teen classes will be Tuesdays or Thursdays. Adult classes will be Monday mornings or nights. I will add more adult evening classes if there is interest. Gift certificates available in the studio. Handy chart for sleeve cap ease. So many commercial patterns have way too much, making it very difficult to smoothly set in a sleeve.

A 'Set-In' sleeve has a seam at the shoulder which continues around the arm.

In a blouse or shirt, I find 1/2-5/8” of ease works the best. In a jacket or coat, the sleeve head ease is increased to 3/4-1 1/4”. The smaller the pattern, less ease is needed. The larger the pattern, more ease.

This drawing of a drafted set in sleeve pattern and cuff was done by Kenneth D. King in a Moulage Workshop. Kenneth is adding to his Moulage Workshop making a custom Dress Form. After you draft your Moulage (body double) from your measurements, you will build up a dress form to fit the Moulage. This Workshop was first taught in the UK hosted by Alison Smith . It was so successful, we are offering it in the USA for the first time!

As much as I would love to invite students back into my studio, it still feels too risky to work in close proximity for the length of a class. I hope to reopen for classes sometime in 2022. For now, I'll share interesting sewing related posts from time to time. Watch this space for news.

I long to be back in the studio with sewing students! But until the virus is under better control and the vaccine has reached as much of the population as possible, it just isn't safe for us to be confined in the closed space we have. Keep safe everyone, I'll keep posting hints and useful links, but there won't be any classes offered this Spring.
