THEA 3: El Teatro Campesino

• Hybrid class with online content that traces the historical and cultural influences of the El Teatro Campesino theatrical company from its creation in 1965 to the present.

• Reading, viewing and discussing the development of the Chicano (Mexican American) culture in American Society reflected in the works of play wright and director Luis Valdez and El Teatro Campesino (The Farm Worker's Theatre), are the focus of this course.

• Students will read works by writers, hear plays read by actors and view live theatrical productions, films and videos produced by El Teatro Campesino in this class.

• 3-unit course has the option for a letter grade or pass/no pass.

• Taught by instructor Mary Isabel Cruz.

• THEA 3 is transferable to both California State Universities and University of California schools.

🚧TRAFFIC ADVISORY: US 101/SR 25 Interchange Project🚧

August 31–September 4, 2026
Drivers traveling through the US 101/SR 25 interchange in Gilroy should expect ongoing construction activity next week as crews continue roadway, drainage, electrical, and bridge construction.

What Drivers Can Expect
Construction crews will continue working in multiple areas of the project.
Crews will continue installing electrical equipment, preparing the roadway, and putting in a new irrigation pipe.
Crews will continue preparing and strengthening the road surface before paving.
Southbound 101–Eastbound 25 Connector: Crews will continue building the bridge, including removing temporary supports, finishing the structure, and installing reinforcement for the concrete safety barriers.
SR 25/US 101 Separation: Crews will continue building the new bridge foundations and installing concrete structures that help carry water away from the roadway.
No Lane & Ramp Closures
No specific lane, on-ramp, or off-ramp closures. However, construction is occurring near the southbound US 101/SR 25 ramp area, so drivers should use caution, follow posted signs, and watch for construction vehicles and workers.

Drive Carefully
Drivers are encouraged to:
Slow down and follow posted construction signs.
Watch for construction workers, trucks, and equipment.
Allow extra travel time through the interchange.
Use caution when entering and exiting US 101 and SR 25.
Construction schedules may change due to weather and field conditions.

Project Objectives
- Improve connectivity between US 101 and SR 25
- Improve traffic operations along US 101 and SR 25 with added ramp storage and signals
- Enhance safety within the interchange area by reducing ramp backups onto southbound US 101 and providing improved access for safer merges
- Support the overall future interchange reconfiguration, including US 101 and SR 25 widening, and future SR 152 improvements between US 101 and SR 156

Project Features
- Phase 1 will reconstruct the US 101/SR 25 interchange slightly north of the current interchange.
- Replace the SR 25 two-lane overcrossing with a four-lane overcrossing spanning across US 101
- Increase the length of the southbound US 101 off-ramp to SR 25 to decrease traffic backups onto US 101
- Upgrade the northbound US 101 ramps to improve exit and merging operations
- Install new traffic signals at the ramp intersections to improve traffic flow
- Construct a separated 2-way bikeway between Castro Valley Road and the southbound 101/SR 25 intersection.
