We finished off December live classes with a little caricature in the Super Sketchers 1 & 2 classes, Tarantulas in Survival Sketchers, diving sideways in Starting Sketchers and abstract portraits in our older class.

Wonder what a Survival Sketchers class looks like? Here's a sped up version of a few of our step-by-step weekly drawings (and some pictures of the final product). We focus on one aspect or another of drawing using really simple tools like pencils, ink pens and crayons or colored pencils. Kids start with a minimal template and build up from there.

Classes are TH 5PM or FR 5PM

So now we're continuing the Snug as a Bug month in Survival Sketchers with a Bumble Bee drawing. Super Sketchers worked on a cool 3PT Perspective North Pole town, and Scribble Sketchers and Starting Sketchers drew Contentment and a Walking Pose respectively. Studio Sketchers worked on self-portraits.

Finally we've caught up with December and in Super Sketchers 1 & 2 we're into Holiday applications of our art...getting festive and fun! This week we drew greeting cards. In Survival Sketchers however we're drawing detailed bugs...this week we drew a praying mantis. And our younger classes are working on expression in the Scribblers and adding movement to bodies in the Starting class. Our Studio Sketchers worked on caricatures (which is week 3 of December for Super Sketchers).

A handful of Studio Projects for Week 12...

Turning words into pictures is an important part of graphic novel development in Super Sketchers 1 & 2. We drew tree frogs in Survival Sketchers using minimal line work. Story Sketchers continued Dogzilla (my version from before Dogzilla in the bookstores was a thing). And we continued to work on fades and body types in Scribble Sketchers and Starting Sketchers.

You can see that everyone works at their own level, but they all do a great job. Drawing is what makes you better at drawing. The kids work hard and come up with some awesome finished products.

Getting a little perspective (some 2 point, some 1 point) on life helps us design convincing backgrounds. Toucans, animal bodies, and color fades...what a week!

November is graphic novels month in Super Sketchers 1 & 2! We move into drawing bodies and fading colors in Starting Sketchers and Scribble Sketchers. And our Survival Sketchers are working on Rainforest Residents starting with a Cappuchin Monkey!

Studio Projects for comic strips came in solid, and the younger classes did superbly as well.

Panel cartoons and turtles and color and expression and a surfing graphic story...here's some highlights:

Let's blow some things up! Proportionally that is. We took the small and made it larger. Our animal illustrators worked on dolphins, and our younger classes still were exploring color and expression.
