Duneside is an alternative strings music camp in Holland, MI. Taught by Hannah Schroeder and Kailey This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Classes:
Students will have a half hour private lesson focusing on the cello or violin every day of the camp, as well as a forty-five minute group class consisting of four students. Parents are allowed to stay for the lesson and group class, as long as they are not disruptive to the learning environment. In the private lessons, students can choose to work on music from their traditional lessons, o
r have one on one instruction in a different genre. Each group class will discover a new genre each day of the camp. These genres will include Old Time, Bluegrass, Cajun, Celtic, and Folk/Rock. These classes will involve learning a tune as well as the basic elements of the genre. If students are proficient in another instrument that will fit into these genres, they are encouraged to bring them to the group class. This could include guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, or voice. Recital:
At the end of each week, there will be a recital in the evening, where students will have the choice to perform individually or as a group. The recital will be held at Tunnel Park in the South Shelter Pavilion. All genres are accepted at the recital. Everyone will have the chance to play, listen, and understand the thrill of performing live. All students are invited to attend both recitals, but are only expected to play in the recital for their week. However, we’ll never turn down anyone who volunteers to play in both recitals! Students:
We are accepting all ages at an intermediate or advanced skill level. We would be able to welcome a beginner student, as long as they are very comfortable playing in first position on all strings. If there are any questions as to whether or not you or your child are at a comfortable playing level for the camp, please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to discuss ways that we can make this a positive experience for all students. Schedule:
There are two sessions which will be held on August 4-8 and August 11-15. Both sessions are five days long. Classes are held Monday- Friday, with a recital each Friday evening at 6:00pm. Each student will have an assigned lesson time and group class that they will attend for the duration of the camp. Each student will sign up for one class. The daily schedule will be the same for both camp sessions. DUNESIDE DAILY SCHEDULE
