I sharpen knives without being nagged! 😂
But here's your final reminder for Douglas in 2026!
Next Tuesday is the FINAL Douglas Farmers Market of the season.
I'll be at Beery Field from 10 AM–2 PM with Rusty's Edges Sharpening.
If you've been putting off getting those kitchen knives, scissors, garden tools, pruning tools, or other cutting tools sharpened, this is your last Douglas market opportunity of the year.
Bring them with you, drop them off, walk the market, and if I'm not too busy, I'll do my best to get them finished while you shop.
And even if you don't have anything to sharpen, stop by and say hello. I'd like to finish the Douglas season with a good one!

Saturday is Central Park Market day!

I’ll be at Central Park Market, the local grocer, from 11:00 AM–2:00.

The weather forecast is looking a little threatening, but that’s not going to keep me away. I’ll have my canopy set up to help keep customers out of the rain, and I can do the sharpening work from my van.

So bring those dull knives, scissors, garden tools, or whatever else you've been meaning to get sharpened. Drop them off, do your shopping, and I’ll take care of the sharp part.

Of course, there is one exception: lightning. If we get thunderstorms in the immediate area, we’ll move to a safer location until things settle down. No sharpening job is worth standing around under a thunderstorm!

Rain or shine, I’ll do my best to be there Saturday from 11–2.

But if you’ve been meaning to get those dull knives, scissors, garden tools, or other cutting tools taken care of, consider this your friendly reminder.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the Allegan Farmers Market from 8:00 AM–2:00. It’s a great time of year to come out to the market, do a little shopping, enjoy some good food, and support the local farmers and small businesses that keep the market going. And while you’re there, drop off your sharpening with me. If I’m not too busy, I’ll do my best to get it finished while you shop.

The weather is looking good, so come on out and enjoy the market. Bring something dull with you—I’ll take care of the sharp part!

Rusty’s Sharpening Minute

These two knives came to me with a pretty good example of what can happen when a pull-through sharpener gets a little too aggressive.

A pull-through sharpener removes metal quickly, but it doesn’t necessarily follow the shape and bevel that the knife was originally designed with. Over time, that can leave you with an uneven edge, deep scratches, and a blade that has effectively been given a new shape.

The good news is that not every knife damaged this way is ruined. These two were good candidates for repair. I removed the damaged steel, established a new shape and bevel, and brought both edges back to a useful cutting edge. They turned out just fine.

I used to tell people, “Don’t use a pull-through sharpener!” Then I realized that was probably not the best business strategy for a professional sharpener. 😂 So I stopped saying that.

Instead, I’ll say this: if you’re going to use one, understand what it’s doing. And if you’ve already used one and your knife looks like these, don’t automatically throw it away. It may be repairable.

That’s one of the things I enjoy about sharpening. Sometimes the job isn't simply making an edge sharp. Sometimes you have to rebuild the edge so the knife can do what it was designed to do.

Tuesday is Douglas Farmers Market day!

I’ll be at the Douglas Farmers Market from 10:00–2:00, set up toward the back of the market near the ball diamond. Bring your dull knives, household or sewing scissors, garden tools, or anything else you’re wondering if I can sharpen. And if you don’t have anything to sharpen, stop by and say hello. I’m always happy to talk sharpening!

Drop your sharpening off with me, then take some time to walk around the market. Pick up some fresh produce, find something interesting, grab a bite to eat, and support the local farmers, makers, and small businesses that make the Douglas Farmers Market special. And if I’m not too busy, I’ll do my best to have your sharpening ready while you shop.

I sharpen knives without being nagged! 😂

If you’ve been meaning to get your knives, scissors, garden tools, or other cutting tools sharpened, consider this your friendly reminder. No nagging required!

Here’s where I’ll be this week:

• Tuesday — Douglas Farmers Market, 10:00–2:00, plus sharpening pickups and drop-offs throughout Allegan County.

• Wednesday — Ottawa County pickup and drop-off day.

• Thursday — Allegan Farmers Market, 8:00–2:00. Drop off your sharpening, enjoy the market, and if I’m not too busy, I’ll do my best to have it ready while you shop.

• Saturday — Central Park Market in Holland, 11:00–2:00. Get your sharpening taken care of while you do your grocery shopping.

Happy Labor Day!

For many Michiganders, Labor Day means one last summer holiday—and, of course, the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk. Whether you’re spending the day working, walking, relaxing, or getting ready for another busy week, I hope you’re enjoying the day.

And speaking of labor… apparently I have photographic evidence that I occasionally do some! 😄

Here’s where you’ll find Rusty’s Edges Sharpening this week:

Tuesday I’ll be at the Douglas Farmers Market from 10–2, and I’ll be making sharpening pickups and drop-offs throughout Allegan County before or after the market.

Wednesday is Ottawa County pickup and drop-off day.

Thursday I’ll be at the Allegan Farmers Market from 8–2 for in-person sharpening. Bring your knives, scissors, garden tools, or whatever else needs a fresh edge.

Tomorrow is Central Park Market day!

I’ll be at Central Park Market, 1158 S Shore Dr, Holland, from 11:00–2:00, sharpening knives, scissors, garden tools, and more.

Central Park Market is one of those local neighborhood stores that people really appreciate. I’ve heard it described as a “gem of a neighborhood grocery,” and it’s easy to see why—great meat and deli selections, fresh food, and friendly service. So come do a little shopping while you’re there, and bring your dull tools along for me to sharpen!
