Wondering when kids should start playing in USCF-rated tournaments? ♟️

For many children, ages 6–8 is a great time to start, but readiness matters more than age. If they know the rules, can finish a full game, focus for a while, and want to compete, they may be ready.

Rated tournaments help kids build confidence, improve focus, learn from wins and losses, and track their progress with an official rating.

You don’t have to be great to start — tournaments are one of the ways you get great.
