Earlier this week, Reese Finn had the opportunity to present her State Winning Extemporaneous Speech at the Rural Schools Association’s Annual Conference.

This conference is comprised of many rural schools across Upstate New York, and Superintendents, other Administrators, and Board of Education Members from across the state were there for the luncheon.

Reese did an excellent job, and we would like to especially thank NYSIR - the New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal - for the $1,500 scholarship awarded to her!

Excellent job Reese! 👏🏻👏🏻

The remainder of the week was just as fun for our WLC attendees!

We wrapped up the week with a service project where students packed meals for a local food bank!
Thousands of meals were packed for those less fortunate in the DC area! Great job Holland Patent members for being apart of that!

The remainder of Friday was free time in the city! Our time was spent exploring the Holocaust Memorial Museum, then visited many Smithsonian’s including the Botanic Gardens, Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum. We wrapped up our free time in the city with a trip through the Great American State Fair - celebrating 250 Years of America. We were excited to see so many states highlighting the agricultural industries found in their state!

A great week, and time to rest up from our very busy week!

Day three brought just as much excitement!

We started the day early with a visit to the United States Department of Agriculture building. We were fortunate to be able to get into the building, and visit the famous meeting room in the center of the building.

Then, it was time for our legislative visits. A huge shout out goes to Senator Gillibrand‘s office for taking a meeting with us to learn more about FFA in agriculture in upstate New York. Excellent job to our students for telling their story and advocating for FFA and agriculture! They did a great job!

After that, it was time for a tour of the Capitol building. We learned all about the statues that are throughout the building, saw the old Senate and house chambers, and were able to learn all about the famous rotunda in the center of the Capitol. A huge thank you to Senator Schumer‘s office for scheduling a tour for us.

Last, but definitely not least, the students had more time to work on their living to serve plans in which they work on a community service project to bring back to their local community.

So proud of our students and how well they represented Holland Patent today!
