Beginning Friday, August 21 at the LCHS Football Game
🏈 A NEW SAFETY MEASURE FOR HOME FOOTBALL GAMES
Football games are a special part of our community, bringing students, families, staff, and supporters together. As we prepare for the upcoming season, Lewis County Schools will begin using the OpenGate® weapons detection system at middle and high school home football games.
Everyone attending the game will walk through the system before entering. The scanners are designed to detect weapons while allowing most everyday items, such as cell phones, coins, and car keys, to pass through without causing an alert.
Here’s what you can expect:
• Spectators will walk through the scanner one at a time with their personal belongings.
• Please be aware that certain metal items—such as metal eyeglass cases, umbrellas, cowbells, foghorns, and similar objects—may trigger the alarm. Before walking through the weapons detection system, please remove these items from your bags or pockets and have them ready to hand to staff if requested.
• If the system alerts, additional screening may be needed. This could include emptying pockets, screening with a handheld wand, and/or a bag search.
• Please plan to arrive a little early and be patient as we all get used to this new process.
Our goal is for everyone to enjoy our games while helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our students, staff, families, and community.
